The bad guys in this show are done by better actors than the good guys. Even when they get on a roll (good guys) the writing is holding them back. The Gao interrogation scene is a good example of this. And the lead isn't believable at all. I'm beyond sick of the man-child hippy shit. Hearing him mention that he was trained in self control, and then seeing him do stupid shit and get angry when it doesn't work. And the sprinklings of pretend Eastern mysticism in the dialogue leave him sounding like that 30 year old idiot friend on Face Book who just discovered New Age bullshit that's been around in this country for 50+ years or so. I like the sidekick. She's a cutie. I enjoyed seeing the Night Nurse and Gao show up-but they both just remind me that I'm still waiting for another season of DareDevil. [Reply]

Yeah. I am withholding judgement on that until I reach the end of the season but through episode 10 it's Ward. Kind of a toss-up between the Dad and Gao after that. After that I'd say the sidekick is better than the sister. [Reply]

I've always liked Iron Fist, but he's like Batman and a lot of other superheroes being translated for the movies and/or television, in that the casting of the lead is crucial. I just don't know what the hell they were thinking with the casting. [Reply]
I finished the series last week. The Fight scenes do suck with Danny. What kinda got me was how "all over the map" the characters are. The first couple of episodes Colleen "the Martial artist female" didn't want to give Danny the time of day and then all of a sudden one episode and she has those googly eyes going on. Did I miss something??
For those that haven't seen the whole thing yet Harold, the Father is all over the place and making no sense and Ward and Joy just make no sense as well. Then the ending kinda sucked and again made no sense. It is about talking a character into Killing someone that the person I thought had some feelings for. Oh yea that is a great idea.....what??? You will understand when you see it.
I dislike that none of the flashback scenes tied Kun'Lun into the show. They could have at least showed maybe why Danny is doing stupid things or show some conflict in him to where yea he is training to control his emotions but it doesn't work. You know since that certainly didn't work at all when he was in New York.
Boy. This show is pretty fucking bad. I'll start with what was good.
1. Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum - Best part of the show to me, hands down. Could have been a very annoying, thankless role and yet I found myself excited when he was in the scene. They even gave him my least favorite C plot cliche of substance abuse and I still was into it. That guy should work a lot more.
2. Rosario Dawson - Man, she tried. She injected as much legitimacy into this thing that she could. She's been a shot in the arm to all of these shows. Thank God for her.
3. ...... production design?
That's about all I got. To me, this show is easily the worst Marvel property out there. I didn't love Luke Cage like most people seemed to but at least it had a slightly original point of view. It's like this show wanted to redo Daredevil except make his superpower really vague and douchey while casting the worst fucking actor on the planet. I seriously couldn't believe how bad he was. He basically had two moves. Petulant, childish, scowl and baselessly arrogant know it all. Oh, one more, ludicrously and earnestly idealistic dipshit. Yes, a lot of this is the writing, but he got the same writer everybody else got and he was almost unwatchable. I was actually fastforwarding through his emotional scenes by the end. I hope he shaves that pubic hair off his face and takes an acting class before The Defenders.
The rest of the cast was fine, although David Wenham overshot a little on Harold Meachum. Could have been fun, but he was just too moustache-twirling for me to take. OH WAIT! The guy that played Colleen's sensei (B- something?) was also terrible. I mean he didn't have much to do but managed to be total garbage.
The story was really weak, the dialogue might as well have been written by a computer program, and it did nothing at all to make me more excited for The Defenders. All of this could have been saved if I gave half a shit about Danny, but by the last episode I really could not have cared less if Harold put one between his eyes. In fact, I was rooting for it a little against all odds.
Long story short, I'm not terribly familiar with Iron Fist, but I'm a huge Marvel fan. That was enough to compel me through the show, but I will not watch season two if there is one. I thought Mike Colter as Luke was the weakest part of Luke Cage, but Danny Rand is next level bad. Can they just recast? I'm sure not. I feel bad for Iron Fist fans. If I was one of them I'd be pretty fucking disappointed.

It just surprises me that they were so subtle with Ward's backstory but didn't have that with anyone else.

It is quite clear that Harold at the very least verbally abused if not physically abused Ward since he was a child. That is also why Ward also bullied young Danny. Hence Ward saying that his happiest day was the one that Harold died. That is why he is so eager to kill Harold after his second resurrection. Harold was already an abused before he died the first time.
