Media Center>Favorite Band/Musician from KC Current or Past
Shiver Me Timbers 12:42 PM 02-20-2020
I was a big fan of Shooting Star. Probably my top pick.
Pat Metheny is from Lee's Summit and is my favorite contemp Jazz musician.
Hall of fame for me is Charlie Parker if we are talking straight up bebop.

The reason I started this thread- I had no idea Burt Bacharach was from KC.

Others?

I saw Pomeroy a few times.

But, isn't the answer Tech?
Had no idea they were from Kansas City.

Agree on Kansas.

The Front- put out a couple of good albums for Geffen records back in the 90's.

Shooting Star was probably my favorite though.

Kansas was always decent too.

Definitely Rainmakers, but Shooting Star is up there. Though I have been out of KC for 30+ years, the Rainmakers are still in my heavy rotation, mostly they don't sound dated, could have been recorded yesterday.

Due to my age in the generation I grew up in, my answer is undoubtedly Tech. I am a Technician For Life.

I never cared for Shooting Star but I was friends with all of the guys, from the original band to the band that last performed (although I didn't really know Todd that well).

I was and am still bummed that Van died, as we were pretty close back in the mid-80's and kept in touch over Facebook for years before he passed.

Freakin' West Nile virus in Johnson County. Who'da thunk?

I don't remember the year, but I think it was about 5 years ago. An old friend of mine called up (he was in KC for business) and wanted to get together. We went to a club (the uptown maybe?) and saw TUF (trampled under foot). Damned fine Blues band.

I'm not that big a Blues fan, but they were quite good....

Thats cool you knew the guys. They used to come to Aggieville in Manhattan frequently. God we had some fun at their shows.
I did not know Van died from West Nile.

One of my friends knew Van and I think it was Gary thru a friend in common. We used to go down to the Long branch saloon (I think it was in Seville square) and see some of them just hanging out. They were really a decent/fun group of guys.
