Saccopoo Memorial Draft Forum>The Value of the #32 pick

Got to thinking that this really is a very valuable pick because when the first 31 picks are off the board there is going to be a team desperately wanting to trade into #32 to gain a player with a 5th year option.

What is the value of #32 compensation wise.? Is it worth (2) 2nds. Is it worth a 2021 1st and a 2020 2nd?

When Lamar Jackson was still on the board, the Ravens then sent the Philadelphia Eagles a second-round pick (No. 52), the 125th pick, and a 2019 pick for the 32nd pick and the 132nd pick (fourth round).

It’s all going to depend on where that team is picking.

We need those cheap years, so that 5th year option if the player hits will be nice. Stay and pick someone.

If we continue to draft well, we can start letting guys go for big contracts elsewhere and rack up Comp picks like the Pats did for 15 years.

Look up NFL trade value charts and that will give you a general idea. There's not a big drop off in value from the 32nd pick to the 33rd.

Where is the cut-off on the guaranteed contracts? I know that some of the 1st rounders contracts are 100% guaranteed but I don't think all 32 are 100% guaranteed.

There really isn't a provision for "guaranteeing" a contract 100% other than the fact that if a contract is guaranteed in the 3rd or 4th years then the preceding years must be equivocally guaranteed, no matter if it's for skill, injury or termination.

The rule from the CBA is in this spoiler:
Spoiler!

As such, most 1st round contracts are guaranteed for skill over the duration of the contract. That said, there has been a tail-off after about pick 22 or so in terms of contracts being fully guaranteed. You start seeing a trend whereby the contracts become only guaranteed for years 1-3 and then decrease as the draft goes with 2nd round players being guaranteed for years 1-2 and 3rd rounders for year 1 only, etc.
