But what about all that performative cleaning?

Also FWIW - I believe the lancet is one of those mills that will publish anything. But plenty of others have said something similar about fomites. We definitely were looking in the wrong place in the early days of this thing. They were running the SARS-I playbook.

**** you.
Things will go back to normal. The Spanish flu was 10x worse than this and things went back to normal.

Now the Black Plague - that one took many generations.

Fuck you.
Over something that 99.9 percent of people will be just fine? Media is an abomination

The article that the tweet sources is actually a really good read. It's pretty long, but lots of information in there.

I thought the Lancet was one of the more respected medical journals? In the early days, yeah everyone was concerned about it being on surfaces and there was a study from one of the cruise ships that said they found virus on surfaces weeks after or something like that. Everyone freaked out about that including me.

Maybe I'm mixing it up with something else.

Damn man, your family is taking it hard. Sorry to hear.

Even with you voicing real loss in your family, assholes still come into this thread to spout "99.9%" and other BS.

The World Health Organization has long encouraged mass tourism and said closing borders wouldn’t stop the spread of Covid-19. A New York Times investigation found this policy was never based on science, but instead on politics and economics. https://t.co/bQcZ9Mquu1

It really is mostly about the indoor super-spreader events. Just avoid those. The problem is cold-weather tourism leads to lots of drinking indoors in bars. You gotta ban that shit and everything else might be pretty safe.

Initially, researchers thought cloth face masks only prevented the wearer from infecting people around them but didn’t actually protect the wearer. However, now scientists are starting to understand that the masks serve an important purpose for the wearer: decreasing how much virus they’re exposed to.

If you’re wearing a mask and are near someone who’s sick, your mask will prevent a significant amount of droplets from the sick person from getting in your nose and mouth.

“The amount of virus you get may correlate to how ill you get. Even if someone cuts down exposure but doesn’t avoid it, their illness may be milder,” Harris explains.
