Media Center>Star Wars: Rebels

And here's our replacement for Clone Wars. Coming to Disney XD in fall 2014. Bridges the gap between Eps 3 and 4. Looks...very cool. Conceptually.

Bit more detail:

The series will mine material from the 19 years that follow Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and precede the Episode IV: A New Hope. In other words, using the life of the Skywalker twins as a measure, the series will be active in the story years that come after their separation as newborns and before their (unwitting) reunion on the prison level of the Death Star.

No word on whether the show will feature Darth Vader (who would be in the Empire’s power consolidation years and earning his reputation) or even pull in a character like Han Solo, the smuggler and cynic who becomes an unlikely freedom fighter when he opts to stand with his friends against cosmic odds. The title of the show is vaguely phrased in a way that any rebel — even a Boba Fett or Ahsoka Tano might qualify as a title character merely by walking an outsider’s path.

The series has three executive producers: Dave Filoni, the point man on The Clone Wars animated series that launched in 2008; screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg, who has a flair for tonal rewiring and energizing familiar brands with new edge (e.g.: X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes); and Greg Weisman, whose credits include well-regarded work on Young Justice and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

They've done Clone Wars and Rebels.

An animated Old Republic cartoon would be awesome, although I suspect a post ROTJ cartoon is more likely. Thirty years of backstory to fill in.

Oh man, so I just found out that the voice actor who plays Hondo in Clone Wars and the upcoming season 2 of rebels...also voiced Don Carnage of Talespin fame back in the early 90s.

I love Disney. And I THOUGHT I recognized that voice. Plus, Hondo is basically a Weequay ripoff of Don Carnage anyway.

Dude, Jim Cummings is like THE Disney voice guy. Tigger, Winnie the Pooh, Monteray Jack, Darkwing Duck, etc. I recognized him right away! /Disney Afternoon Nerd

Also, am I going to have to start avoiding this thread for Star Wars Ep 7 spoilers, too? Can we just keep all of those in that thread?

Based on comments by LucasFilm, it's very possible that there will be major spoilers for VII in Rebels.

To be honest, I'd be disappointed if there aren't.

Be that as it may, can we at least keep them out of the thread until they're actually revealed on an episode that airs before the movies? Or at least use spoiler tags?

Plagueis is quite dead. Only Bane learned the ritual of essence transfer, and no other Sith beyond him ever did it.

Is that canon? I'm confused. Darth P was mentioned by Palpatine but I don't recall if Bane was ever mentioned.

While I'm happy that LucasFilm wiped the entire EU because so much of it was goofy, IMO, it's sometimes fuzzy figuring out what's official and what's not.

It's too bad we had to wait more than 30 years to get it but hey, better late than never.
Question?

Why are they still using the Lucasfilm logo?

Is Lucas still involved somehow?

So you're asking to keep Episode VII spoilers out of the Rebel discussion or vice versa? I don't want to spoil anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled.

Because Disney purchased LucasFilm and like Pixar and Marvel, they're run as independent production assessts.

Now, there's crossover between the companies, such as Marvel's new Star Wars comics, which are canon, and it wouldn't be surprising to see a Star Wars character in a Pixar film, but they each independently run under the Mouse House.

As far as George's involvement, from my understanding, they use him as a sounding board quite frequently but I don't think he has an official position.

Frankly, the realm of TOR is so solidly written and established, that any move to incorporate it in to the "new thing" would be sucky at best.

The negating of Revan and Bane from Clone Wars? Yep. Don't fuck with a great thing. Let it be, and move on.

Whatever back-end they're trying to move in to this with Sydow and Serkis will unlikely have anything to do with TOR.

As it should be, IMO.

Thanks! I just looked up Darth Bane and it looks like a mess. I'd be shocked if they go down that road.

But the costume design of Kylo Ren and Revan are nearly identical and I'd be surprised if that was a coincidence.
