The Chiefs are close to a deal with S Tyrann Mathieu, I’m told

They’re in fine shape with the long term cap. Again, they have huge numbers in Watkins, Ford, Berry and Hitchens that can all come off of the books in 2020. And they already have plenty of 2020 space.
Watkins money goes to Tyreek. Ford money goes to Jones. Berry/Hitchens money goes to Mahomes (plus another $10m).

If this is the "Cueto" deal that gets us a Super Bowl, then so be it.

Yep, but projected $80M in 2020 space before all of that (not including the Mathieu deal).

They’re in fine shape IMO. Veach has a plan and it shows because he isn’t forking out the 5 year contracts.

Mathieu is apparently excited for the role that he will be playing in KC...

Price isn’t great but the structure of the contract will be.
Its not that he misses games - its the games he gets dinged up and his play suffers. He is undersized and plays BIG. He gets hurt and it stays with him longer than most. He was definately not the same player at the end of last year, that he was at the beginning.

Spagnuolo thinks this guy can fit a specific role, and having a year off to step back and watch tape, this could be a great signing. The main reason I like it is I read only $14M gtd. If that’s the case it’s pretty much a 2 year deal.

That’s bc we only have like 8 players on contracts for 2020 lol. But we do have a ton of flexibility which is good.

I'm always game for Coming To America. Badger gets the last laugh on the skeptics.

Tyrann was once an All pro and now he is coming here in his prime. I think he will do great things

I saw this interesting interview the other day in which ex-GMs and coaches were talking about how to spend money during a legit, QB-led, Super Bowl window.

Basically, their strategy was a penny-foolish, pound-wise sort of approach. You try and spend as much of your cap as possible while you have the QB on his rookie deal. (That's fairly obvious, I suppose.) The caveat was that you have to be sure you have enough dry powder available when the time comes to resign your QB. It's a bit of a tight rope.

It seems very simple on the surface. The problems come about in scouting the surrounding, supporting players and how well the GM and the HC communicate. That, and how the "win-now" vs "long-term" outcome strategies complement each other.

This is all new to me since we've never really had a legitimate chance to rock the league for a few years (or 10). I'm going to have to learn on the fly, I suppose. I guess Veach hasn't experienced this sort of thing either, though ... that's a little scary.

Oh I don’t know about this signing. I think Spags could have squeezed another year out of Ron Parker/CP

I'm thinking Houston might be getting sick of our shit, lol
The Astros eventually won the WS anyway, but the Royals also gave the Astros that devastating Game 4 loss in 2015. Like, the kind you can never forget, even when you're champions.

Just hope he can stay healthy
