We all have varying opinions about the impact of this, the numbers, etc. We will all never agree with each other. But we can all keep it civil.

Thanks!

Hospitals are far from being overwhelmed. We have increased hospitalizations but we are in no danger if running out of any kind of beds at all.

Do we even have that? Johnson County numbers show a small spike in July and has been going down at a fairly fast rate ever since. I just do not see much going on at all with hospitalizations from the information they provide.

Looks like they are at about 32% ICU beds and close to the warning zone. Total beds looks ok.

I was speaking specifically about Johnson County on the Kansas side, but thanks for the information. It at least speaks to the situation on the Missouri side of the metro.

Certainly not trying to insert myself (ayooo) into this conversation, but here's some background on that.

A total of 45 children died from the coronavirus in the United States between February 1 and August 1—compared to 105 who died from seasonal flu—out of a total of 13,000 children who died of all of causes over the period.

When they do catch the virus, children are far less likely than adults to fall seriously ill.

An informative study of 2,143 confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus among children in China found 94 percent of cases were asymptomatic, mild or moderate.

Those children who do fall ill often have underlying conditions. A study found all 10 pediatric patients who were hospitalized in Chicago in March and April with COVID-19 had either pre-existing conditions or co-infections.

The bottom line here is that children get sick and die from COVID-19 far less often than adults do, though that does not mean they are immune.

It's worth emphasizing that given that children are more prone to severe cases of flu, it wasn't obvious at the start of the pandemic that children would be less susceptible to COVID-19.

Yes. I've read that about 90 children have died from COVID-19 so far.

Just FYI, the Moderna vaccine has been under development since 2003 and the original Sars outbreak. So there you go, 17 years.

Very anecdotal report, but this is from a family member of someone who "died of covid" in our community.

I want people to understand, Was our family member diagnosed with Covid? Yes. But she had mild symptoms and was not deathly sick. She had other underlying medical issues. Please let our family and her friends grieve in peace and not make our tragic loss, your statistic.

Saying that, thank you to everyone who has called and checked in on the family.
