I'm not sure how anyone can be optimistic about this virus dying out or going away anytime soon when there was a record number of new cases yesterday of 77,255 with 943 deaths...

Its eventually died out everywhere else its been no matter how bad it was including Italy.

Why would the US have a year long battle when its not happened in any other place no matter the intensity or severity of the outbreak?

Because we're the shittiest country with the dumbest assholes in the history of the cosmos.

Now everyone get out there and save the economy while preserving my fragile sensibilities through Kabuki theatre.

We're all in this together, you worthless motherfuckers.

Why? It already happened before. If at 40k cases from 4 weeks ago that means 1000 deaths now. Then 71k now and 2,000 deaths isn't outside the realm of possibility.

That's because it's not March and April.

I would imagine because we reopened in most places when the epidemic was actually increasing, not decreasing.

Yes, Accurate...BUT....the trend is not encouraging. Areas are becoming a hot spot almost like NY and it's SUMMER.

We have a lot more people, and people obviously aren't following the directions. People still don't seem to grasp that a lot of these other countries just aren't going to fight over the mask thing or social distancing like we do... our stubbornness can be a good thing many times, but in this case it's probably making things worse.

The other big risk is we're letting this spread so much and so widely, if it mutates in a bad way it could be ugly. If you knock it down like these other countries have, it's less likely a bad mutation of this thing is going to spread. That's not going to happen here.

Great hyperbole. So well-written. I am sure you're very proud of your latest draft. Definitely on par with your penchant for the extremely dramatic. :-)

I think the more grounded response is that some societies and cultures are better at mobilizing than others.

Nah, I think I captured the zeitgeist infinitely better.

That pain you're sensing might be the spark of recognition.

Cause we just let it spread like wild and didn't control it?

Short answer they wore masks, maintained social distancing and were cautious with reopening.

And now they are reaping the rewards of their diligence and we are reaping the rewards of our selfish idiocy
