With Arrieta and Holland (and Soler having a break out, and Kennedy and Gordon bouncing back, etc.) this team just might contend.

I mean, I could MAYBE see Holland, even if it's pretty unlikely.

But why the hell would Arrieta sign with us?

What makes you think Arrieta wants to sign here.

First Arrieta was going to be a Cub, then a Twin, then a Brewer, and now a Phillie the latest rumor is saying will happen this week

Just signed the Philly deal... Saw on twitter just 10 mins ago.

Breaking: Phillies and free-agent right-hander Jake Arrieta have agreed to a multiyear contract, according to multiple reports & first reported by @NBCSPhilly. pic.twitter.com/CsY6WFHjcM

That was fast. Well hopefully they still suck this year like they have for the last few, and either are forced to trade him, or other pieces that don't get them back in contention for 2019

Lmao. We got one in 2015. I am happy with that for 25–30 years. If you told me when I was a teenager in the 90’s the Royals would give me one before the F’n Chiefs....

That's an interesting contract.

3/75 with an opt out after 2 years that can be voided by the Phillies if they extend him 2 years. The extension has a base salary of $20M per year with incentives for $25M per year based on games pitched or $30M per year based on Cy Young's. I wouldn't expect him to earn that $30M incentive but I'd be shocked if he didn't reach the $25M incentive, so 5/125 if they chose to extend him.

He turned down 4/110 and Darvish's deal from the Cubs to accept 3/75. Lot of Boras clients left a bunch of money on the table this off season.

Cubs let Davis and Arrietta go and got draft compensation. Cubs signed Yu and Chatwood. Neither one had draft picks attached to them. Theo with a very smart offseason.
