In 2018 Chief had the following wide receivers -
1.
Tyreek Hill 24 years old 5-10, 185 (Current contract - 4 year $2,586,220 FA 2020)
2.
Sammy Watkins 25 years old, 6-1, 211 (Current contract 3 year - $48,000,000 FA 2021)
3.
Chris Conley 26 years old, 6-3, 205 (FA)
4.
Demarcus Robinson 24 years old, 6-1, 203 (Current contract - 4 year $2,857,172 FA 2020)
5.
Marcus Kemp 23 years old, 6-4, 210 (RFA 2019)
6.
Gehrig Dieter 25 years old, 6-2, 208 (Current contract - 2 year $1,050,000 FA 2020)
7.
Kelvin Benjamin 28 years old, 6-5, 245 (FA)
Injured Reserve
1.
Byron Pringle 25 years old, 6-2, 205 (Current contract 3 year $1,725,000 FA 2021)
2.
De’Anthony Thomas 26 years old, 5-8, 176 (FA)
Practice Squad
1.
Josh Crockett 23 years old 6-4, 195 (Re-signed to futures contract for $495,000)
For 2019 –
I believe to tender RFA Marcus Kemp for 2019, it would cost $2,045,000. So unless a lower cost contract can be reached, I think Marcus will be gone.
De’Anthony Thomas could be signed to a low cost veteran minimum deal at a cap cost of $645,000. Actual contract will be over $1 million but cap would be figured on a 2 year veteran minimum. DAT fits in well with Andy Reid’s offense and special team’s coverage.
Chiefs might draft a wide receiver and will sign several college free agents and 1 year players.
Training camp main roster
1. Tyreek Hill
2. Sammy Watkins
3. Demarcus Robinson
4. Gehrig Dieter
5. De’Anthony Thomas
6. 2019 Draft Pick
7. Byron Pringle
8. Josh Crockett
9. Low cost camp player
10. Low cost camp player
11. Low cost camp player
12. Low cost camp player
Sorry for such a long answer, but I had to think this through.
The answer is, YES.
Even if Pringle gets cut and put on Practice Squad, when either Sammy Watkins or De’Anthony Thomas gets hurt, Byron Pringle will be brought up from the PS and will play.
