RIP

I lost my Dad when I was 23 and he was 47.

Thought that was old at the time.

A meta analysis of several studies showed that head trauma was one of five statistically significant risk factors for the development of ALS.

I think one of them is playing 1st base for the Yankees.

Lead was the strongest connection, then the next four were heavy metal exposure, farming, beta carotene intake and head injury (not in that specific order).

Beta carotene intake? As in too much or too little? I could see the lead and heavy metal stuff but the beta carotene thing is very odd to me.

Farming is interesting as well but seems like it could be connected to the others.

My uncle died from ALS, one of the worst thing I have ever seen.

Too little. The thought is that oxidative stress may play a role in development, so antioxidant intake could ward that off (all things in moderation, though).

The Ruler of the Lake

I have a vivid memory of him making a sack or a TFL or something back in 2003, don't remember which game, but he was so fired up the rest of the defense had to drag him off the field while he was celebrating. Really seemed like a guy who loved playing the game.

ALS is a bad deal, hope he lived a good life. Thanks for a few smiles R-Kal

That's very sad to lose a guy at 45 to ALS. Terrible.
When he played here Mr. Doggity and I called him Ken-L-Ration, because we couldn't remember the name R-Kal Truluck.

RIP.

One of the only bright spots of those awful Vermeil Chiefs defenses, even if all he ever did was abuse backup OTs in the preseason. Definitely an entertaining player.

RIP.
