I bought a bottle of their sauce when I was in KC at Rally house in the plaza. It was terrible. I’ve never eaten there. Been to Q39 once and Jack Stack several times. I liked both of them

If that BBQ don’t cost at least $30 a plate I’m not interested.

Q39 or starve.

Bryant's quality starting going down in the mid 80's, not long after Arthur Bryant died. Sauce is still good. KC icon.

I've only had Bryant's once back when I still lived in KC. It was at The Station Casino back when it was still called that. Probably 99 or 2000. It was god awful. Gotta try the real thing next time I'm there.

I am currently 60YO and AB's BBQ was serving me and my JOCO buds beers back in high school.

Never had the balls to eat AB BBQ when they opened satellite stores

AB 2.0 was served at MO Restaurant Assn. (Banquets and golf outings). It was always dead on

Bryant's is so inconsistent. There have been times that I've eaten there and it's been some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Other times, it's been mediocre.

Their original sauce is gross, IMO. Sweet heat is one of my favorite sauces ever, though.

This is the 1st post cooper has ever made that I 100% fully agree with.

Gates and Bryant's are KC authentic and KC original. Bryant's original sauce is designed primarily for beef. It's got vinegar and paprika in it. It's tart and sour, and if you grew up eating Kraft BBQ sauce or KC Masterpiece by Clorox with 80% corn syrup in it, you're not going to like Bryant's original. For poultry and pork, their sweet hot sauce is better. The fries and cole slaw are fabulous. Ribs are excellent, turkey and brisket all plentiful and flavorful. Gates prices have gone up again. They are expensive for what you get. The mixed plate is a good deal to try a little of everything. I think their standard sauce is the best on the planet. It's what I grew up with. Fries are good if you get them crispy. Slaw not as good as Bryant's. Gates service can be spotty. Somedays its really slow and disorganized. Bryant's seems to get the orders out quicker. If you are a tourist, you must try both someday and decide which one you like better.

I've never met anyone that thinks Bryant's original is just 'okay'. It's either delicious or disgusting.
