Nzoner's Game Room>-- Talk to me about Texas Tom's and your experiences there (past/present)

Talk to me about Texas Tom's and your experiences there (past/present)

I have great memories of this place. Those plastic army figures encapsulated inbetween booths inside translucent plastic casing, swimming in sand (few will remember those)

We had one on 7-hwy.

Feel free to discuss Taco Via as well, here.

If you're from the Joplin/Carthage area or SE Kansas, maybe discuss Taco Town?

I was reminded of these places when I ate at Del Taco yesterday (here in Atlanta) and noticed they served fries w/ Tacos and offerend Burgers on their menu.

Del Taco was very good - nothing like the crap it once was when it left the Atlanta Burbs in the mid nineties - this 'new' one just opened. They're back w/ a new menu and attitude! - DelTacoReviewBrah

Only ate at TT's twice, it was decent.

At 14-16, I worked summers at Kings Food Host, burger burnout ensued shortly after. Taco Via when Bob was buying and never heard of Taco Town.

Del Taco is definitely several notches ahead of Taco Bell. Their macho tacos and burritos are light years beyond the Taco Bell offerings and their breakfast burritos are good, too.

I usually hit Del Taco a few times a year.
Was that the same (powdered) white cheese as "In a Tub'?

You could have called and got Pizza Queen.... Your loss.

I would make the lunch dash for an Italian steak sammy at Wimpy Burgers at 77th and Troost.

Taco John's is the best fast food taco joint.
Where the **** was that? I can't place it.

I ended any future encounters with del taco about 8 years ago...

You really have to try hard to be worse than taco bell, but that particular visit was cringe worthy...

That being said, I used to love their burritos before it went south, so I'm half tempted to give them another try after hearing a respected foodie in Simply Red sing their praises...

I've never had those tacos before.

My description of TT's was in the early 70's - like 1970-1972.

I actually don't remember going to TT's after 1972.

Living in Arizona changes your definition of Mexican fast food. We have Taco Bell, Del Taco, etc but they're all garbage. It's all about Filiberto's, Adalberto's, Salazar Bro's or the ultimate, Los Favoritos. Carne Asada fries from any of those places is 1000x's better than anything from your traditional Mexican fast food joint.

Aww thank you - but seriously try to keep it simple - just standard burrito's and a taco - coke and fries. I think you'll like it. It wasn't nearly as good when it left Atlanta around 1995 - it was similar - but not as good of quality. I did however - take advantage of Del Taco's .49 cent tacos, when they'd run that special promo pricing, back then. :-)

depends on the person - I prefer junky Tex mex to authentic. Just my preference. :-)

I ate at an authentic place here in town and there was bone throughout my corn tortillia soft taco, I had to throw it out.

Same with LA. I have awesome street tacos everywhere within .5 miles of my home and on Tuesday's, they're $1 dollar for chicken, steak and pork.

El Pollo Loco changed things up a few years ago and completely revamped their menu.

It is by far, the best "Fast Food" Mexican place around, although it's more of a dine in place at this point.

Their new salsa bar rules and is on par, if not better, than most Mom & Pop places, IMO, but I'm a sucker for salsa Rojas.

I was raised on Via, TT, and somewhat nicer place in Annie's Sante Fe. About the only authentic food I seek out is Italian and German. I'm pretty basic. Probably not a great quality.
