We all have varying opinions about the impact of this, the numbers, etc. We will all never agree with each other. But we can all keep it civil.

Thanks!

As to your question, I presume because they either didn't have this 90% compliance revision on 4/1, or did and simply hadn't run the model with that revised percentage. It doesn't have to be nefarious. You seem to think it is. What's the motivation for them to do so?
The same thing that motivates bad reporting.

Being first and the attention it offers.

When I hear people say that it makes me wonder if they realize all the other states for the most part are already taking steps to mitigate? So if the virus is already in Kansas and Kansas has been taken mitigation steps for going on 3 weeks now you have to ask yourself, if the worst is still yet to come then WTF did we lock down for the last 3 weeks? Kinda comes off like "psyche! It wasn't your turn yet!"
If it plays out that way, I think we should just be happy that the worst didn't come.

I guess I'm no way near as jaded as you. These aren't reporters. They are doctors and number crunchers, right?

I don't disagree. What I am questioning though it the statement in and of itself.

They're academics, which makes them politicians with degrees.

Ah, I gotcha. I suppose it seemed like a safe assumption with the nature of the virus and what we have seen it do in other places.

Exactly. A vague statement with no meaning that is also impossible to disprove. Alas, we are getting political now. I won't comment more.

Well I mean it just like...it's in NY now but you just wait, it's going to come to you too. It's like it's already here and for some reason NY HAS to peak before anyone else can or something.

I agree

You'd have to be an idiot to think our medical experts are sensationalizing his for attention.

Looks like we'll end up with ~29,000 new cases today. Close to 2,000 deaths. We knew this was coming, but damn, that's a lot of people. We lost 2,400 Americans at Pearl Harbor.

Kansas the government may have taken steps 3 weeks ago but I can tell you for a fact that the people in the Manhattan area only started taking it seriously this week. No slowdown of travel, little to no social distancing, no protective gear nada. This week a person tested positive that had been to a local grocery store and Walmart and some people are wearing masks now but they sure as hell aren't staying home. Most cases were travel related but now community spread is happening and most folks are more concerned.

It's like this in St Joe too. I've lost track of time so I don't remember exactly when the shelter in place order was issued, but I think it was about 2 weeks ago?

Nothing around town has really changed.

Some people like to make bold predictions just so they can say they were right if it happened that way. Some just want to freak out over anything...and here's the perfect thing for them. Some have other agendas...ifyouknowhatImean. And who knows, it still could. It's not over with yet. Doesn't seem worth obsessing over either way.

They are 3-4x more likely to die compared to their share of the population.
