Missouri football with momentum on field and recruiting trail

Out of local powerhouse East St. Louis (Ill.) High, Lovett’s pledge pushes the Tigers up to No. 26 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, the program’s highest place in the standings since the 2015 class finished No. 25.
The Tigers are 5-3 obviously playing an all-SEC schedule on the field and Drinkwitz and company are recruiting at a level to ultimately elevate those results down the road.
“They’ve exceeded expectations,” East St. Louis assistant coach Harith Mitchom said. “When the schedule came out I thought they would be lucky to win two games.”
After winning five of the last six, Drinkwitz is hoping to finish 2020 with seven victories. Obviously the Tigers have a tall task this Saturday with Georgia coming to town and they round out the campaign with a road game at Mississippi State next weekend so we’ll see what happens but the narrative in Columbia is one of stirring upward trajectory. Last Saturday they completed the largest fourth-quarter comeback in program history in beating Arkansas and find themselves ranked No. 25 in the latest College Football Playoff Standings.
“Drink got a lot of swagger,” St. Louis (Mo.) Lutheran North head coach Carl Reed stated. Reed has highly-recruited prospects every cycle coming out of his program including four-star edge rusher Travion Ford who is the jewel of this Mizzou haul in 2021. “His energy is contagious and it’s infectious and the kids really feel his energy and his fire. I saw it the first time I met him. The first time I met him I knew that I felt like he was going to be special and bring a different kind of energy to the program. I didn’t know it would happen this soon but he’s made a major impact on the recruiting trail and everybody is taking notice.”
Lovett joins his teammate and quarterback in fellow Top247 four-star Tyler Macon in giving his pledge to Drinkwitz and Mizzou.
“They seem to be focused on building something get them back to the SEC Championship game,” Mitchom said. “Drink and staff appear to be solid guys which help with connecting with recruits.”
With Lovett in the boat, the class sits at 21 with major targets likes of defensive ends Arden Walker and Byron Young on the board along with cornerbacks Dontae Balfour and Jadarrius Perkins.
“I talk to them pretty much every day,” Walker said of Mizzou before going into what stands out. “Definitely the coaching staff and the culture. I’ve been seeing it over the past couple months and some of the guys committed I’ve been talking to them and I’ve been able to see some progress.”
Landing Lovett is more proof of that. So is the 2022 class off and running too.

Speaking of which: that Trey Hill kid, C from GA looks to be a good prospect. Too bad he isn't playing today. He could be a nice grab if they decide to go Oline in the 1st round. [Reply]
