It seems to me that the only reason to actually fire Dorsey today, as opposed to letting him stay in his job until 2018, when his contract would expire, is that Dorsey wouldn't give Clark Hunt any assurances that he couldn't leave for Green Bay if he was extended.
Hunt pays him either way so it appears to me that Clark cut the cord so that the front office is prepared for the 2018 draft.
I think it reasonable to say that Clark knows this is not good but what was lying ahead was going to be the same or worse. This was a "cut your losses" type of deal, obviously. [Reply]
The timing of this doesn't make sense. I'm sure the truth will come out at some point. My guess is Dorsey wouldn't commit and they decided let's move on now.
I like Dorsey but if he wouldn't make a commitment to the team and kept flirting with GB I could see how that would piss off an employer. Still a dumb move though. [Reply]
What the he**? I leave for an hour to go to a meeting and this happens? This can't possibly be serious. This has to be some kind of prank. Why on earth would you dismantle a front office that's been brilliant?

Clark has talked about continuity in the front office and coaching staff since hiring Pioli and Haley.
Again, if Dorsey wouldn't give the assurance that he wouldn't leave for Green Bay in the next 4 years, Hunt made the decision to cut ties and move on today.
It's a shame about Ballard but I don't think he was the only guy in the world that could replace John Dorsey. [Reply]
