Media Center>Clint Eastwood's "Richard Jewell"
Megatron96 05:49 PM 12-09-2019
So I've seen the trailers for this a couple times now, and I have to admit, I'm curious. Clint almost always makes a good movie and the subject matter is interesting. Well, it is to me anyway. I still vividly remember the Richard Jewell story, how shocking the bombing was, how quick the media was to identify and then judge Mr. Jewell in print and on the air, etc. And then when they found he was actually innocent, how quickly and furtively the media just swept his story under the table.

Anyway, wondered if anyone else is interested in the story?

I really enjoyed The Mule, so he’s still at the top of his game

This one strikes me as a sunday afternoon rental during the offseason, gritty but very somber... I gotta be in the right mood for those

Looks good. Eastwood still has the chops.

Getting some bad press, because the Atlanta paper doesnt like the way Kathy Scruggs is portrayed in the film.

Before the truth came out, the Atlanta Constitution compared Richard Jewel to Wayne Williams the Atlanta child killer. They were also the only media outlet that was sued and didn't settle. They won after Jewel had died, the courts ruled that because the articles written at the time of press was ruled true, but later as we know were untrue could not be the basis for defamation.

I think since the paper won, they now want to press their luck. I hope that someone puts the screws to them someday.

The 30 for 30 was great. Terrible unjustice to a man whom looks like he would fit in with chiefsfans

For years Hollywood has served up glowing tributes to journalism. Think “Spotlight,” “The Paper,” “Kill the Messenger,” among other films celebrating their hard work and dedication to “the truth.”

Not Clint Eastwood.

He sees something else, senses something else. The American people are fed up with journalists. They don’t trust them. They don’t like them. And journalists, in turn, have done almost everything possible to earn that distrust.

There are no more journalists. Journalism is dead. Completely murdered, first by the cable networks like Fox and CNN, and then the internet backed the bus up and rolled over the corpse again.

We live in a world now that's devoid of news. Devoid of fact. There is only opinion. Everything is presented through a filter and people don't want to hear, see, or watch anything outside of their chosen little box. It's not a right thing or a left thing. Confirmation bias is universal and virulent.

The world where journalists would actually research stories and present information for people to digest and form their own opinions? Yeah, that's pretty much gone now. Now you just believe whatever you want because of 'reasons' and disregard everything else.

I'm not, I have journalists I trust, and those I distrust. There are many journalists with good integrity that deserve to be heard. If the American people were fed up with journalists, then Fox News, CNN, MSNBC and the like wouldn't be on air anymore due to poor viewership numbers and the papers would be going under due to the same, and not because the age of digital has wiped out the age of print first and foremost. Please don't speak for the American people, it's ignorant.

That is a good interview. I was laughing pretty hard when Bates was trying to say "You're not as dumb as you look."
