We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.
If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.
I have no idea if Collins will be a good signing, a bad signing, or not sign with KC in general. But, in a vacuum, the way we have seen the strong safety be used is going to be vastly different than what it's about to be.
Perhaps Spagnuolo knows exactly how to use Collins. Perhaps he knows that Collins isn't nearly as good as people think he is. If they pay a premium for him, then one has to assume Spags believes he knows how to make him an elite safety. Personally, I'm more for signing a couple free agents for the same price and increasing your dart throws. There are other guys under 27 who could really help the defense. [Reply]

In the modern NFL, a 'box safety' or more accurately, a STRONG SAFETY is responsible for covering TE's, slot receivers on slants and short yardage routes, and in run support.
These are things we were absolutely horrible at last year. Landon Collins would've made enough difference alone that we probably beat New England and go to the Super Bowl.
But you guys think he's worth less than a free safety.
He's a defense changing piece, will be 26 years old, and already proven to be a stud in this defensive system. You guys are nuts.
no I know what the role does. I am arguing paying said role 50-60 million dollars to still get beat by Julian Edelman on 3rd and long doesn't seem like a good investment.
You seem convinced Collins would have stopped that. I don't. Agree to disagree. [Reply]

I guess pretty much everyone else but you thinks the 3 time pro bowler is pretty good. [Reply]

I'm not arguing his talent. I am arguing spending that much on one position player now that you have a franchise QB. The days of paying the Berrys and Houstons of the world when you have a QB should be over. Doing it all over again with a guy like Collins just seems like your pushing more issues down the line 2-3 years from now when you need money to pay _____.
Collins on a rookie contract being a 3 time pro bowler is a lot different than Collins on a 50-60 million dollar deal. [Reply]

I always enjoyed Mayocks takes on the draft. He really does his homework. With the draft picks he has to play with, this could set the Raiders up for a long time.
It will be interesting to see if that knowledge translates to an actual GM making his own picks. [Reply]

He's not making the picks would be my guess [Reply]
