Nzoner's Game Room>Which WR Disappointed you Most in 2023?
el borracho 05:58 PM 03-28-2024
End result was great but everyone acknowledges that the 2023 Chiefs Wide Receivers were disappointing. The question is- who was the MOST disappointing?

Skyy Moore- 21 Receptions for 244 yards and 1 TD
Kadarius Toney- 27 Receptions for 169 yards and 1 TD
Justin Watson- 27 Receptions for 460 yards and 3 TD
Justyn Ross- 6 Receptions for 53 yards and 0 TD

I would have to say Toney was the most disappointing for me. He's the most talented of the above by a good margin and he looked great last year. I'm still not sure WTF happened? Team finished the season without him.

Justyn Ross was almost as disappointing for me. I realize he was an UDFA but dude had talent in college and his preseason was so strong I felt like dude was going to displace one of Watson or Moore.

I suppose I should be more disappointed in Moore but I just never saw any talent there. Dude is not big; he's not fast; doesn't stand out in any category. Honestly, I feel like Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle were both more talented than Moore so I just never had any expectations for the guy. Easily my least favorite in this position group.

Ok, I'm not really disappointed in Watson- he's exactly what you would expect for what we paid. Just thought I should include him in the poll because you know someone has got a bone to pick with the dude.

I'm not listing Rice because I assume no one has any real complaint about him at this time. Also, if you do- I don't really want to hear it.

So that's about it. Poll incoming...

It’s seems insane not to. At least until you cash in on the payday.

According to Skyy himself he spent a ton of time last offseason working on his craft, to no avail. People have to get past the idea that he has some kernel of NFL level capability in him. He just doesn't have the requisite physical gifts/talents to be an NFL WR. Wish he did, but the fact is he doesn't. Time to move on, though I know Andy won't. He'll bring him back this year (and next) because he hates to just give up on a player.

Id still want to be with my qb.

Everyone’s training in the offseason. Even high school athletes.

I highly
Doubt skyy knows he has no talent so he’s given up on flying to Texas to catch balls from mahomes.

Hollywood brown did it first thing after signing.

Yeah, he should be modeling himself after Edelman. But it looks like he just wasn't invited down to TX.

Regardless, I doubt even if he did train with Pat that it would amount to anything concrete on the field in Sept. he just doesn't have it.

Our 3rd given up ended up being Tre Tucker drafted by the Raiders.

Toney had 27 rec for 169 yds and 1 td along with 11 runs for 31 yards
Tucker had 19 rec for 331 yds and 2 td to go with 10 runs for 77 yards

Hmm.

Our other pick ended up being CB Tre Hawkins who started some games but wasn't great. But when you think that DT/DE Dante Stills went 4 picks later and would have been a nice 2nd pass rusher at DT, it makes me sad.
If you use a third for a high floor special teams player with a shot at being a starting LB or depth, maybe interior OL...

But a third round WR is a gamble. Clearly Toney had a much higher ceiling and a much lower floor than even most third round picks. You don't get sure thing WR1 in the third round. You don't even get sure thing WR2 in the third round.

Andy Veach rolled the dice, and outside of a few nice plays in the previous SB, they struck out. Life in the NFL drafting last each round and trying to maintain a SB roster with Mahome's cap hit.

I would have voted for Richie James. How can a kid catch nearly 60 passes from Danny Jones, but never get open for Mahomes? Toney is and always has been an injured head-case. It was foolish for Reid to rely on him whatsoever. Sadly, we all saw the writing on the wall with Moore after season one really didn’t click at all. MVS redeemed himself in the postseason. For the most part it was an expected shit show. Good thing Mahomes and the D were god-like when needed.

I'd say more than 50% of the people on this board thought Toney was a solid #1. He wasn't even a 4. Case closed

MVS definitely needs to be on there. Dude was getting huge money, he's a veteran, and still sucked absolute donkey dick all season.

Fuck off with that straw man nonsense.

Most of the board was unhappy when the reports came out that the best coaching staff in the league was looking at him as the teams #1 WR.

Nobody ever thought Toney was “a solid #1” outside of a handful of idiots.

Toney was a lottery ticket acquired mid season via trade from a (currently) shit franchise. Skyy was a deliberate draft pick in his second season.

Skyy's the bigger disappointment.

Any GM worth a fuck isn't trying to select special teams players in the 3rd round. The 5th-7th round yes.

Even if you aren't getting QB1, CB1, LT, ER or X/Z WR in the 3rd, you are getting a SWR, IOL, LB, S, NB, RB and DT with relative regularity. So, it's not a throwaway pick. Toney cost us a potential solid starter at some position and a special teamer. Moore cost us a solid starter at some position too. I don't see the compensation as overly different and I see both of them as sucking shit. At least Moore sucked slightly less shit than Toney.

Skyy was the massive disappointment the day we drafted him. I wanted George Pickens. We took a flier on Toney and he just doesn't love the game. He'll be gone after this season.

He’s plenty talented enough.

Can move well enough and is even physical enough for some good downfield blocking.

Hes not a world beater but there have been less talented athletes be productive in the league. His is very much between his ears.

It's between Toney and Moore. I hovered over both options.

I went with Toney though because he was SUPPOSED to be WR 1 material. Instead, he was the defense's secret weapon with his shitty hands.

Good riddance.

Meanwhile, Skyy simply continues being the same jagoff he was when he came on board. He had one competent game vs Jacksonville and then POOF....gone.
