Nzoner's Game Room>The Motorcycle Discussion Thread
Dayze 11:41 AM 06-07-2013
I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.

Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16)

Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you:

Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere
Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel)
C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel

Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too.
http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75

Nice.

One of these "Dayze", we're gonna meet up and go for a ride. Maybe I can get you to come to one of my charity rides. I'll be riding from February on through the fall again so it shouldn't be too hard, lol.

oh, I pulled this from the website for the dealership. More pics to come when she's official:

absolutely. Just give me some notice on one of the rides, and I"ll be down. Hell, my brother and I are riding up to Mound City, MO (about 1.5 hours away) for a charity ride. They guy he bought his bike from, his kid (12 yrs old) died from Cancer last year and they've been putting on a ride for the last two years I think. I'm always down to ride and give a few bucks to charity. What area are you located? (you can PM me if you don't feel comfortable posting)

Nice scoot. Looks like it has all the goodies on it already (Pipes/ AC)...that saved you about $1200 right off the top lol. Any idea on when the deal will be finalized?

Got my score back today, and that looks good. Answered a few extra questions for the financing aspect. Pretty sure we're good to go there. Hoping to get everything done by this weekend. The only things I would really want to do to this bike right away is get the quick detach windscreen and sissy bar.

I live in Blue Springs, but we try to spread the starting points around town. Help support more businesses that way. We'll be doing a ride in April, June, August, and October. Once I get the flyer mocked up, I'll go ahead and post in here with the exact dates.

Roger that.
Usually once the season gets going, I post in here fairly often to see if anyone wants to ride / meet up / charity stuff too. So I'm in this thread pretty regularly.

I've done weekends in Arkansas and there are some neat roads down there, but I'm thinking I want to see some REAL scenery. Do you head west to Colorado, California & Oregon, or go east to Carolina, Virginia & Tennessee?

I'm not sure how many miles a day I can handle, but I'd guess 300 or so is about right. How much do you guys travel on your trips? Any tips to share with a cross-country noob?
Go east and west..I went west to Yellowstone and rode through the mountains and it was beautiful and then a month later rode east to Tennessee and North Carolina..both directions are amazing..there is so much to see in this country it's best just to pick a bunch of different spots all over the map and just ride

As far as distance in a day I have went a few hundred miles in a day and I also have cranked out 700-800 mile days..depending on your bike health weather traffic it all depends on what you are comfortable with..I normally ride 120 miles and then stop for gas and drinks..so roughly every 2 hours..it helps you stay fresh

Tips for you are these..roll your clothes don't fold..wrap them in zip lock bags..throw a dryer sheet in each bag if you want to help them stay fresh a little longer..wear shirts a couple days in a row jeans as well..I normally do 2 days for shirts and 3 days for jeans..helps keep luggage to a minimum..socks I change everyday..you can find laundry mats everywhere

Baby wipes are great to have..basic tools for minor repairs..tire plug kit..a good LED flashlight..I also take a headlamp so I can have my hands free for setting up the tent or bike work..rain gear is a great thing to have as well..I don't have a trunk on my bike so most things go in a backpack from my military days so I have extra pouches on it for all small things like pills sunglasses clear glasses eye drops sun screen..I also have an old military poncho I wrap around my bag on days it looks rainy out and stuff it into a pouch on my pack for clear days..you can also put the poncho on your bike and make a lean-to for you to sleep under on nights you want to rough it

Tire pressure is also a big thing so keep a pressure gauge

Dudes- thank you so much for the tips. You all hit on some really good ideas I hadn't thought of. A tool to read and clear OBD codes sounds like a good idea, as does a tire patch tool. I will likely be staying at rat trap motels or friend's houses along the way, so that should clear a little more room for packing clothes and stuff.

Right now I ride a Suzuki DL-650, but if things go right in the next few months, I'm trading up to either a Ducati Multistrada 1200, or a BMW S1000XR. I made the big mistake of test driving the Ducati last summer, and could not wipe the smile off my face. I'm sure my first out-of-pocket repair bill with either of those bikes will fix that! Hopefully with a new-ish motorcycle, the ride will be maintenance-free.

I'll be sure to take a few warmup trips prior to the big one. Aside from Arkansas, what's a good destination within 300-400 miles or so? I've been to the Ozarks several times, but wondering what else is out there. I did catch the northern tip of the Flint Hills on a ride from 56 Hwy to Manhattan, which was neat. How is the ride from Cassoday on up?

Cassoday is a decent run. Somewhat boring in parts. But a good little considering its ks. We go through Gardner off the interstate, through Baldwin city, and head south to Cassoday via Council grove on 177. Usually head back via Emploria off the interstate.

We did a nice run up to St Joe via Weston MO through some state and alphabet highways. I'll try to get the specific roads in the next day or so.

Liberty via I35, east through town to William Jewell, through to excelsior springs and pick up O hwy south back to 210 east and come back south over the river. Take the highway that follows along the river west all the way to D highway I believe , south and to i70 /Bates City. Can either head back to KC from there, or keep going south and you'll eventually hit 50hwy outside/east of Lees Summit. I'll confirm the highways/alphabets when I get a chance.

71 south to 7 why to Clinton Mo..lots of good alphabets down there. Z hiwahy, ZZ, T, TT all loop around back to hwy 13 where you can pick up and head back north to CLinton.

Lawrence to topeka/Perry lake area via 24/Ozawkie/meridian /valley Falls Coming back through oskaloosa/Mclouth, and can either head north to Leavenworth or come back south to Tonganoxie.

Just a few we do fairly regularly

If you come all the way across t to 65 and go north to h hwy and go east till it ends at b.
Take b north, stop at Charlies buffet and eat, then continue north to 52 then back west through Cole camp and on west through Windsor.

Stop in Windsor and see if you can find FMB some amish ketchup. (Because damned if I can)

Then continue west on 52 till you get back to Clinton. Or if you want to stick back roads you can hit alphabet hwys and come out near Warrensburg pretty easily.

I'm a back roader

Yep, Charlie buffet is legit. Odd hours, however for those who are unaware.

Great list! I will certainly check them out. I think I took 56 west to Burlingame, kept going west on 31, turned north on 99 and then cut over on 24 to Manhattan. I remember being stunned to find hills that big in Kansas. Unfortunately, there weren't enough of them!

I usually do an annual float trip down in Eminence, MO and to get there I usually take 7 to 13 south into Springfield. I'm kicking myself for not thinking about the little lakes and highways around Osceola.

Last trip I took down there, I was an hour behind schedule looking to make up some time and wouldn't you know it, a Missouri highway patrol pulls in behind me just past Deepwater and tailed me all the way to Springfield. :-)
