Media Center>Lyrically speaking.... what are some of the best song lyrics?
Coochie liquor 02:51 PM 10-14-2016
What are some of the best lyrically written songs that you listen too? Great lyrics are just as big a part as good music to go along with it. Put them both together in a song and you've done something pretty damn awesome. Here are my first 2 entries, both songs are by Mike Pinto. He's an amazing lyricist, and his songs kick ass. Ok CP, what ya got?

Knocked up

Betty got knocked up,
while the husband was locked up,
baby was unplanned,
and the papa was a mailman.
it was a special delivery,
with no signs of chivalry,
a knock at the door,
and Betty got what she was looking for,
on the bathroom floor.
Spread her legs as her husband served a 5-to-10,
even embezzling money form the government,
well fuck the government.
Shes a sucker for a man in uniform,
hes a mother-fucker lyin' called her beautiful,
both were good and ready,
Betty got sweaty,
you could cut the tension with a dull machete.
Oh, Betty got locked up,
husband was locked up,
answers to the name of Xavier,
tryin' his best to get out on good behavior.
Meanwhile, Bettys got a child inside her,
no man, no man could be her provider, or stand beside her

The mailman ain't convinced one bit,
he just thinks that Betty needs a man around to babysit.
Well it was cool when he was all up in her,
but hes stickin' around cooking no ones dinner, well its
too bad, the love that they had
faded to fast, you know the mailman couldn't last too long
too long, so here I go with another fucking love song.
Well Betty thinks its time to go to court,
cuz she could really use the child support,
but from the start you know that Betty had the case won,
the mailman's gonna need a second occupation
OoOoh
Betty got knocked up, husband was locked up
baby was unplanned, papa was a mailman
special delivery, HA,
no signs of chivalry, HA,
knock at the door and Betty got what she was looking for,
Looking back at all these things in retrospect
shes wonder when her heart? Xavier's gonna wring her neck.
He's gonna wring her neck,
her neck, her neck! Ooh!
And late one night she got a call on the telephone,
thought it was Xavier with the news he was coming home
but no, it was the mailman on the Coastal Highway
he went postal, shot somebody!
He said goodbye and he drove his car into the ocean,
she shed no tear cuz in her heart she was hopin'
to pay a visit to her lover in stripes,
"Ya know the babys got the mailmans eyes?"
Ooh! Betty got knocked up!
Betty got knocked up, YEA! YEA! YEA!
Yes she did, yes she did, yes she did.
Ooh, Betty got knocked up.

Tricky Nicki

Tricky Nicky always ran around town
She’s the type of girl who'll turn your frown upside-down
Five fucking minutes in the sack and you’ll return
With a dozen roses and some weed to burn
Shit you think I’m babbling but Nicky’s always dabbling
With coke she’ll smoke your grass, toss your ass like a javelin
Before you get thrown here’s advice of my own
You better take out a mother-fucking loan

And it goes...

Tricky Nicky’s gonna spread her disease
Don’t bother to play the father. She can’t have no babies
She’ll take your money and she’ll take your Benz
And for a tab of ecstasy she’ll do you and a friend
What a shame, what a shame Tricky Nicky’s not the same
As she was before she got sucked in the cocaine game
The coke she’d steal would make her feel good for an hour or two
‘Til she woke up with her throat cut in a hospital room

Oh you’ll have to forgive me I have spoke too much
You see as my pen hits the paper my lips hit the Dutch
Well you know how that goes but lets continue to flow about
Poor old Tricky Nicky’s scenario

It was an emergency as she went under the knife
As doctors urgently tried to save Nicky’s life
There was a burglary and she was too high to fight
Cause she was staying with a dealer that she met that night
Woah...

[Solo]

Tricky Nicky always ran around town
She’s the type of bitch who'll turn your frown upside-down
Five fucking minutes in the sack and you’ll return
With a dozen roses and some weed to burn
Shit you think I’m lying but Nicky didn’t die
And the scar on her neck would only reflect the pain she keeps inside
So pass the story right on through
'Cause that is all that you can do
'Cause Tricky Nicky’s coming to a town near you

"Elephant" lyrics
JASON ISBELL LYRICS
"Elephant"

She said “Andy, you're better than your past”
Winked at me and drained her glass
Cross-legged on a barstool, like nobody sits anymore
She said “Andy you're taking me home”
But I knew she planned to sleep alone
I'd carry her to bed, sweep up the hair from her floor

If I'd fucked her before she got sick I'd never hear the end of it
She don't have the spirit for that now
We just drink our drinks and laugh out loud
And bitch about the weekend crowd
And try to ignore the elephant somehow
Somehow

She said “Andy, you crack me up”
Seagram's in a coffee cup
Sharecropper eyes, and the hair almost all gone
When she was drunk, she made cancer jokes
Made up her own doctors' notes
Surrounded by her family, I saw that she was dying alone

But I'd sing her classic country songs and she'd get high and sing along
She don't have a voice to sing with now
We burn these joints in effigy and cry about what we used to be
And try to ignore the elephant somehow, somehow

I've buried her a thousand times, given up my place in line
But I don't give a damn about that now
There's one thing that's real clear to me: No one dies with dignity
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow
Somehow
Somehow

JASON ISBELL LYRICS
"Children Of Children"

Pictures of the farm before us
Old men in a gospel chorus
Sepia and saddle horses
Easy on the reins

Eighty-one, a motor inn, your momma's 17 again
She's squinting at the dusty wind
The anger of the plains

You and I were almost nothing
Pray to God the Gods were bluffing
Seventeen ain't old enough to reason with the pain
How could we expect the two to stay in love
When neither knew the meaning of
The difference between sacred and profane?

I was riding on my mother's hip
She was shorter than the corn
All the years I took from her
Just by being born

I didn't mean to break the cycle
At 17, I went by Michael
No one ever called me by my own name anyway
Five full generations living
All these expectations giving way to one
Late to have a baby on the way

You were riding on your mother's hip
She was shorter than the corn
All the years you took from her
Just by being born

KATY PERRY LYRICS
"Peacock"

I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock
I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock

Word on the street, you got somethin' to show me, me
Magical, colorful, myster-mystery-ee
I'm intrigued, for a peek, heard it's fascinating
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)

What's up your sleeve? Such a tease
Wanna see the show-oh-ooh-oh
In 3D, a movie, heard it's beautiful-oh-ooh-oh
Be the judge and my girls' gonna take a vote
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)

I want the jaw droppin', eye poppin'
Head turnin', body shockin'
(Uh, eh-eh-uh, uh, uh, eh-eh-uh)
I want my heart throbbin', ground shakin'
Show stoppin', amazin'
(Uh, eh-eh-uh, uh, uh, eh-eh-uh)

Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
Don't be a chicken boy, stop acting like a bi-otch
I'mma peace out if you don't give me the payoff
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)
Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
What you're waiting for, it's time for you to show it off
Don't be a shy kinda guy I'll bet it's beautiful
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)

I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock
I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock
I wanna see your

Skip the talk, heard it all, time to walk the walk
Break me off, if you bad, show me who's the boss
Need some goose, to get loose, come on take a shot
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)

I want the jaw droppin', eye poppin'
Head turnin', body shockin'
(Uh, eh-eh-uh, uh, uh, eh-eh-uh)
I want my heart throbbin', ground shakin'
Show stoppin', amazin'
(Uh, eh-eh-uh, uh, uh, eh-eh-uh)

Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
Don't be a chicken boy, stop acting like a bi-otch
I'mma peace out if you don't give me the payoff
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)
Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
What you're waiting for, it's time for you to show it off
Don't be a shy kinda guy I'll bet it's beautiful
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)

I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock

Oh my god, no exaggeration
Boy all this time was worth the waiting
I just shed a tear, I am so unprepared
You got the finest architecture
End of the rainbow-looking treasure
Such a sight to see
And it's all for me

Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
Don't be a chicken boy, stop acting like a bi-otch
I'mma peace out if you don't give me the payoff
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)
Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
What you're waiting for, it's time for you to show it off
Don't be a shy kinda guy I'll bet it's beautiful
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)

I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
I wanna see you
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock
I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
I wanna see ya
(Come on baby, let me see what you hidin' underneath)

Kashmir

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed

Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear
Oh, oh.

Oh, I been flying... mama, there ain't no denyin'
I've been flying, ain't no denyin', no denyin'

All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.

Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir.

Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
Ohh.

When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah

Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there

Let me take you there. Let me take you there

There is an incredible version of that song, I think with the Egyptian Orchestra, that I downloaded off of YouTube before it was taken down. I think it's the best version I've ever heard of it. I have it on my PC still. I wish I could share it-the file is 288 MB.

But, anyway:

Through Benedy Glen oft at eve have I wandered
With a heart that is lighter than the dew of the morn
Her heather-clad mountains and clear crystal fountains
Delightful to view by the light of the dawn

I see her green hills and swift-running streamlets
Eternally flowing right on to the sea
By her side I lie down on a bank of blue violets
And its murmuring and gurgling are music to me

In far foreign lands oft do her sons wander
By Niagara Falls or the Prairie Grand
Where nature is seen both majestic and savage
But their hearts are at home in their dear native land

They long to return to the banks of the Lena
The Roe and its branches on every side
Where there lies brave Cooey, that once-mighty chieftain
Who once 'gainst the Saxon defended with pride

Her daughters are fair and her sons, they are gallant
They scorn the tyrant, the serf or the slave
Their rights they maintain at the point of the bayonet
With an arm that is strong and a heart that is brave

In an abbey not far from the town of Dungiven
Their spirit hovers over that once much-loved soil
Where there lies brave Cooey, that once-mighty chieftain
Who commanded of yore from the Bann to the Foyle

His statue disfigured by base alien mongrels
His name oft impaired by unscrupulous foes
Yet his soul shines in glory 'mid choirs of angels
As his body lies moldering on the banks of the Roe

Long may she prosper 'neath her sheltering mountains
Carntogher, Benbradagh and surrounding hills
From calamity and famine, great heaven, defend them
And grant them contentment 'neath their clear purling rills

One of my favorites of all time, Suite Madame Blue by Styx. Love going back to the early lyrics after the final chorus makes it obvious the whole thing was about the country and how it is diminished in some ways.

Time after time I sit and I wait for your call
I know I'm a fool but why can I say
Whatever the price I'll pay for you, Madame Blue
Once long ago, a word from your lips and the world turned around
But somehow you've changed, you're so far away
I long for the past and dream of the days with you, Madame Blue

Suite Madame Blue, gaze in your looking glass
You're not a child anymore
Suite Madame Blue, the future is all but past
Dressed in your jewels, you made your own rules
You conquered the world and more heaven's door

America, America, America, America
America, America, America, America
America, America, America, America

Red white and blue, gaze in your looking glass
You're not a child anymore
Red, white, and blue, the future is all but past
So lift up your heart, make a new start
And lead us away from here

TOOL again. Maynard is such a genius. Spoiler for the video because lots of ****s.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call L.A.
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona Bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your Prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a bullshit three ring circus sideshow of freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call L.A.
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona Bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by fault lines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dip shits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cause
I sure could use a vacation from this

Stupid shit, silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim. [3x]

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all these gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cause I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom, please flush it all away.
I wanna see it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
Bring it down
Suck it down.
Flush it down.

Another incredible musician/poet in Chad Gray

And we hide behind,
Lies, anger, Hate they shoo love away,
Build shells of ourselves outside,
It shelters body from cold reigns of reality,

Come on, Step out, of your rind, assemble strength, focus,

Release and run to me you can never look back to the visions from the
past they fade and wilt in time,
You've got to just trust me to hold your hand through,
Then I turn and walk away,

Eclipse you (Cut you away),
And bleed you strip you of your states of ain soph aur,
Eclipse you (Cut you away),
I spit up on my plate and I push everything away,
From me
And we sever all ties,
It creates disruption midst circle of friends,
I become the sacrifice,
Spare your life and leave me to my misery,

Get off the cross, and save yourself, run away

Run now get away from me if I can get my grip I'll pull you down into
the hell I call my head you'll never get away
I sit down in my ugly place and build walls out of fragments from my
past of all the people that I needed and loved that walked away,

You've got to just trust me to hold your hand through then I'll turn
and walk away

I walk under the clouds of gray,
Sphere of storms in my head,

I'm trapped again in endless rain
I divorce the thoughts of you I love with me,
I divorce your innocence and my guilt,
I divorce the lying sellout confidence,
I'm divorcing every mother fuckin' thing
I divorce the love bled meaningless,
I divorce the makeshift harmony,
I divorce the taunting acts of violence,
I divorce the pastime of jealousy,
I divorce control,
I divorce the faith,
I divorce the virtue,
I divorce the rain,
I divorce the excuse,
I divorce the greed,
I divorce the need,
I divorce iniquity in this mother fuckin' bullshit life,
Just want it all to go away,
Just want to run away to die, take it, myself, my life
Text book fucking mental, off me and pitch me in a hole

I'll always be your shadow,
And veil your eyes from states of ain soph aur,
I can't be the hero anymore,
I spit up on my plate and then I turn and walk away,
I spit up on my plate and I disrupt the family,
I spit up on my plate and I sever the entity,
And I feel your warm sun on my face
Separate .

Eclipse you and bleed you strip you of your states of ain soph
aur,
I need you,
It's always been this way, I push it all away,
From me

The only Nobel Laureate lyricist...

You must leave now
Take what you need you think will last
But whatever you wish to keep
You better grab it fast

Yonder stands your orphan with his gun
Crying like a fire in the sun
Look out, the saints are coming through
And it's all over now, baby blue

The highway is for gamblers
Better use your sense
Take what you have gathered
From coincidence

The empty handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, baby blue

All your seasick sailors
They are rowing home
Your empty handed army
Is all going home

Your lover, who just walked out the door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor
The carpet too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, baby blue

Leave your stepping stones behind
Now, something that calls for you
Forget the dead you've left
They will not follow you

The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, baby blue

If you're going with a Dylan song I'd rather pick:

"Shelter From The Storm"

'Twas in another lifetime one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue, the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness a creature void of form
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

And if I pass this way again you can rest assured
I'll always do my best for her on that I give my word
In a world of steel-eyed death and men who are fighting to be warm
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Not a word was spoke between us there was little risk involved
Everything up to that point had been left unresolved
Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I was burned out from exhaustion buried in the hail
Poisoned in the bushes and blown out on the trail
Hunted like a crocodile ravaged in the corn
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Suddenly I turned around and she was standing there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Now there's a wall between us something there's been lost
I took too much for granted, I got my signals crossed
Just to think that it all began on an uneventful morn
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well the deputy walks on hard nails and the preacher rides a mount
But nothing really matters much it's doom alone that counts
And the one-eyed undertaker he blows a futile horn
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I've heard newborn babies wailing like a mourning dove
And old men with broken teeth stranded without love
Do I understand your question man, is it hopeless and forlorn?
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

In a little hilltop village they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation and she gave me a lethal dose
I offered up my innocence, I got repaid with scorn
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well I'm living in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor's edge someday I'll make it mine
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well that's kind of the point.

You could say that dozens and dozens of times...

And still have left out some great lyrics.

Across the street they've nailed the curtains, they're getting ready for the feast
The Phantom of the Opera in a perfect image of a priest
They are spoon feeding Casanova to get him to feel more assured
Then they'll kill him with self-confidence after poisoning him with words
And the Phantom's shouting to skinny girls, "Get outta here if you don't know"
Casanova is just being punished for going to Desolation Row"
