Nzoner's Game Room>Sammy Watkins will officially be back
carcosa 03:39 AM 04-03-2020

The Chiefs have reached an agreement with Sammy Watkins on a new 1-year deal that will pay him a base of $9m for 2020 with an incentive package that can reach $16m, a source tells me.

The move creates $5m in cap space for the Chiefs to operate this offseason.

I think this is nice!

Still can’t believe Veach pulled this off. Watkins really stepped up for the team.

Well considering the cap jump next year and that Watkins is only 26 I'm super cool with that idea.

It's hilarious how much Sammy feels like he's over 30. I guess that's what happens when you enter the draft when you are 19

26?? He’s only two years older than Pat. Sammy feels like he’s 36

Any chance they are able to keep him for the long term and not just 2020 season?

Probably more than likely. Will depend on his production this year and if Veach drafts a WR or not

It seems the owners want to see what happens with covid19 before committing to huge contracts with guaranteed money going out that far at this point.

Lots of uncertainty

He had great games in the playoffs for sure but he sucked dick in the regular season except game 1.

ZERO touchdowns from your supposed #1 or #2 after week 1. :-)

Yes... because all that matters in football are sacks and TDs.

I agree the dude was over paid, but we are like 20-4 when he's healthy and plays an entire game. His impact is far greater than his individual stats.

Yeah let's weaken the strongest part of the team. It would be concerning if money was committed to all these guys for long term deals, but the only guy we are really paying in Hill, who is worth every penny, and then we have Hardman on a rookie deal. The WR group is the last place to bitch about money IMO.

When you've got a fucking artisan as your QB are you going to want him working with tools from Harbor Freight or paint brushes from Wal-Mart?

Fuck no, you get the man the best tools money can buy!

Keeping Watkins preserves that "pick your poison" problem for defenses. So what if Watkins isn't getting touchdowns for a stretch? Tyreek is going off. Double both WR's? Kelce goes crazy. Put a top CB on Kelce? Watch Watkins put it down.

Add a QB with the mind of a savant and the arm strength of Zeus, and you're virtually unstoppable.

Think of it not as investing in a person, but in a scheme that has proven to be good enough to win championships.
