Nzoner's Game Room>The Fishing Thread
Easy 6 07:58 PM 02-19-2010
Searched around & only found the video fishing & BassMasters threads, i know their are plenty of outdoorsman here, so i figured it'd be cool to draw upon the Planets vast experience in all things fishing.

I only use spincast reels & fish mostly large/smallmouth bass & cats. My choice of reels is quite the source of derision from many people i know 'duffer gear', but i haul in my share of 6 pound bass & 10-20 pound cats on that gear no problem. With a little know-how you can use just about any technique you want to on 'duffer gear'.

Berkley Powerbaits are a big part of my trick bag, the difference between those & regular stuff is night & day. My best action last summer came on Mister Twister scented white curly tail grubs, on one day fishing from shore to a bridge pier, i caught smallies, bigmouths, perch & even 1 carp believe it or not... great day. But my bread & butter is a texas rigged Berkley worm, it'll wiggle through any kind of cover without getting hung up.

With cats i strictly bottom fish, no bobber & bait is just as basic... but its always in 2's to give'em a real treat... a shrimp/with a nightcrawler, liver/chunk of cheese etc. Cats are mostly for night sport to me, time to kick back a lil...

So thats me style, how do the rest of you guys get your fish on? What do you fish for, what do you use? IIRC Missouri's trout season just kicked off, anyone getting anything?

Nope, those aren't the same pictures at all. Most of my New Mexico trout were small, wild browns. The fun of those is actually being able to catch anything at all. They are finicky wild fish from a small mountain stream with a short growing season. The pictures here are from the Lower Mountain Fork river in Oklahoma. It's a tailwater supplied with hatchery trout and steady water temperatures due to the flow from the dam, which gives year around growth.

Can I go NBA style and knock both of you up?

Its ok to hate Easy 6 .......
better to just pack up and go plenty of clear water and Big Pike thousands of Walleye some of the best structure, Rocks and Points dead trees, deep drop offs, take portable fish finder and just enough gear to make it interesting.
Float plane ride to your outpost cabin and dock forget about everything for 7 to 10 days best stress medication known to mankind...

I need to get out in my kayak. I got a new car so I have to first get a roof rack though.

Anyone here in the Kansas City area catching loads of crappie yet? I am wondering how close they have moved to the banks. My guess would be they aren't quite on the bank yet but are maybe out in 8-10 feet of water waiting for a little bit of a warmer weather trend.

Wish I had some good crappie advice for ya, but I only catch them here and there when I'm not even targeting them specifically.

I like to submit my application for membership in that club.

Or maybe I just hate myself for not going back to Canada for another Fishing trip. Went up to Lac Seul in Quebec several years ago. Several days of Northerns, Walleyes, and Smallies was fricken great.
I love to fish, it has always been my favorite thing to do. Funny thing is I don't like to eat fish. Every now and then I'll try a bite or two but it has never been anything I like to eat at all. On that trip I stayed at a decent lodge and had a guide every day. And every day he would cook shore lunch for me and my friend. The first day he made fried potatoes/onions and walleye. Just rolled in corn meal and fried. So I tried the walley. It was killer, I mean it was 'Damn, what the hell have I been misssing out on?' That day I ate so many walleye fillets that my stomach was hurting and I had to just lay down in the boat for an hour or so before I could stand up, move around and fish without my stomach feeling like I had a watermelon in it. Every day I was there I had walleye for lunch. I was thinking I would never again give my fishing buddy all my fish because I didn't like it. Unfortunately, fish has never tasted like that to me again. Doesn't mater what kind, or how it's cooked. I just don't like the taste. I think maybe the water had a lot to do with it. Crystal clear, clean, unpolluted water and enviroment is about the only thing I can think of that's different.
I'll never forget that week long romance with her. That smile of hers, those big beautiful eyes, the playing hard to catch and the way she tasted in my mouth. She satisfied me like no other......before or since. I still run across her from time to time. Shes changed though. Distant and cold, tries to get away from me when she figures out I'm there. And worse of all, every encounter since Lac Seul just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Excuse me while a go cry a little bit in private.

Majority of these lakes are on crown land so they don't get too busy. Mainly just canoes. The fishing is great!

:-)

It was nothing different than usual lunch time hunger. Had a good breakfast at the lodge that morning. The guide had brought something else for me the first day, I think fried chicken, because I'd told him I didn't like fish.
I really don't know why it tasted so good that week I wish I did.
