Media Center>Why does everybody hate Nickelback?
Frazod 07:02 PM 02-08-2019
They're after my time, and as far as I know I've only ever heard one of their songs. Which is frankly kind of catchy.

But comparing any disliked band to Nickelback seems to be the ultimate musical insult, and any time they are mentioned people seem to pile on like the crowd that wanted to burn the witch in Holy Grail.

What did they do? Does everybody hate their music that much? Are they dicks to their fans?

I need somebody not musically stuck in the decade between '75 and '85 to enlighten me.

The Ramones knew what they were doing, you hit the nail on the head. I have mad respect for them, even if they're not my style of choice. I mean, I have a deep appreciation for Lou Reed for his artistic vision, although his music is still rather simplistic. And even though I'm a metalhead, I have 14 David Bowie albums. Talent is talent. :-)

Dave Grohl is a legitimately-talented multi-instrumentalist. :-)

I'm not saying that dumbly beating on shit is inherently superior to noodling and showing off your skills. I'm just trying to highlight the distinct ways people can display creativity and passion.

That's why Pearl Jam endures for me. They banged stuff out, but the instrumentalists were effing solid, no matter the mayhem they were creating.

That's why Prince Rogers Nelson is a guitar god in my book, because it's passionate and skillful at the same time without ever navelgazing.

Yeah, we're not ever going to agree on Pearl Jam. I hate them. :-)

For me, the guy is John 5. Most of the time, you'd never know. He just plays. But then he rips off some crazy arpeggios and follows it up with some bluegrass fingerpicking and you realize the guy is a genius.

Do you hate PJ, or do you hate Eddie mumbling?

I hate grunge. I hated it more than I hated disco.
Lots of old man up in this piece. Screamin' at the air old man. Sheesh. Explains MUCHO.

Both? :-)

Yarling is definitely not my thing but there's more about PJ that I don't like than Eddie. I don't know, to me I always thought comparing Soundgarden to PJ and Nirvana was unfair to Soundgarden. They were my favorite grunge band, hands down. Of course, I was a lot younger and judgmental then, too.

I listened to Nirvana quite a bit growing up.

That's a pretty good list.

The older I get, the more I appreciate classic rock, didn't listen to much of it growing up, but its about all I ever listen to now, and other than a couple handful of bands maybe, I look back and laugh at some of the bs I used to listen to in middle school/HS.

That and there is nothing good about today's music....absolutely nothing. Nobody has any actual musical/instrumental talent anymore with exception for a few. I listen to John Mayer a lot now...hate his chicky radio shit, but I listen to the Where the Light Is: Live in LA album almost daily and never get tired of it, dude's a master guitarist.

It may surprise you that I don't give a fuck what you think. About this or anything else.

I'm gonna get slammed for this but my question is "Why does everybody love Def Leppard?" You would have never heard of them if not for Mutt Lange spending hours overdubbing and fabricating sounds in the studio the band could never pull off on their own. Like Nickelback, every song sounds pretty much the same to me.
Go ahead, blast away...

I can’t stand Def Leppard.

Lol

Like, hear the first few notes of a song in the radio, and even my wife will change the station from the passenger seat . ...

Didn't hate DL, but didn't see the big deal.

In HS, my assessment was a little skewed because it seemed like all the girls who are huge into DL were supremely skanky.

I feel the same way about Led Zeppelin. Never liked them, even when I was a kid and everybody else did.

Well see, there you go.

Love for a certain type of music, largely relates to childhood or young adulthood. I grew up with grunge and many of my favorites are from that time. I didn't add a love for some country, until my early 20's, when I moved out of hick-country and realized those songs spoke a lot of truth about that lifestyle.

Liking Disco more than grunge might be the dumbest thing you've ever said on here.........and you've said a lot.

And Def Leppard just might be the shittiest band to ever come out of that era of music. They're just trash.
