Nzoner's Game Room>Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay on the Outs?
Dante84 01:21 PM 04-29-2021

Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

More on NFL Live now....

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 29, 2021

#Packers GM Brian Gutekunst to ESPN: "As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond. Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The Packers are aware of his feelings, concerned about them and have had team president Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur each fly out on separate trips to meet with Rodgers at various points this offseason, sources told ESPN.

"As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond," Gutekunst told ESPN. "Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

Rodgers has not budged this offseason, but neither have the Packers, who have made it known they are not interested in trading Rodgers anywhere.

The San Francisco 49ers called the Packers on Wednesday night, a source told ESPN, and the Los Angeles Rams inquired about Rodgers in January before they traded for Matthew Stafford.

The Packers quickly dismissed the Rams' overtures, the source said.

The Packers have offered to extend Rodgers' contract, sources told ESPN.

Rodgers is unhappy for a variety of reasons, with some of it dating back to last year's draft when the Packers didn't inform him before trading up to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick. Some took this as a sign that his days in Green Bay could he numbered.

He also is at a different point in his personal life, having recently gotten engaged to actress Shailene Woodley. Rodgers also has hosted "Jeopardy!" and said it would be a dream to become the full-time host. He could play football and host Jeopardy! together.

Rodgers has made cryptic comments about his future in Green Bay, but he has told others that he does not want to return.

On draft night, the Packers' biggest issue isn't who they land, but whether they can keep the former NFL MVP.

Rodgers' contract contained a $6.8 million roster bonus due in March. It could have been converted into a signing bonus that would have freed up more than $4.5 million in salary-cap space for this season but instead it "vested as scheduled," a source told ESPN at the time. It's listed as an automatic conversion in Rodgers' contract but even that has to be signed off on by both parties. It's not known if the Packers tried to convert and Rodgers refused to sign off on it, or if they did not attempt a conversion.

Don't see Cleveland or SF. I think Cleveland is happy with Mayfield and SF just gave up picks to draft Lance.

Even the most ardent Donk homer would have to acknowledge that last season was Rodgers best shot at a SB.

Everything was set up as good as it could possibly be...HFA in winter against a Florida team. 3 INTs in the 2nd half...MVP season.

He has only been to one SB his entire career...and was 27. He threw 2 INTs and 0 TDs in his only NFCCG victory..

Here is a break down of Rodgers' performances in championship games...I didn't realize how awful he has been in nearly every one of them. His average passer rating 63.0 over four previous trips...he did eclipse 100 this year for the first time.

He is 1-4 in championship games...

Rodgers record in NFCCG

2010 against Bears - Packers won 21-14

Rodgers threw a pair of interceptions, no touchdowns and finished with a passer rating of just 55.4.

2) 2014 - Seattle 28, Green Bay 22 (OT)

Rodgers finished with two interceptions, one touchdown and a 55.8 passer rating. Packers led 19-7 with just more than 3 minutes left in the game and Rodgers couldn’t close it out.

3) 2016 - Atlanta 44, Green Bay 21

Atlanta led, 24-0, at halftime when Rodgers had no touchdown passes, one interception and a 65.6 passer rating. The Falcons stretched their lead to 31-0 in the third quarter before Rodgers began beefing up his numbers.

4) 2019 49ers 37 - packers 20

Rodgers 3 TOs in first half, 4 total TOs Packers didn’t score in the first half and were down 27-0

Rodgers has thrown 7 INTs + 2 lost fumbles vs 6 TDs.

The Rodgers fear is hilarious.

The guy is not a winner or a leader.

Mahomes is both of those things personified.

Isn't that the same page?

They were probably following the Mane and thus expected Lock/Jeudy to be Montana/Rice.

Well..one thing is evident...he is not a big game QB. 1-4 in games deciding a SB birth is not good...

I guess it could be said he was good enough to get his team to a championship game...so there's that.

Then again...the best QB in his division was Stafford. He never had a Mahomes or Herbert to compete against. He's kind of like Brady in that regard...he was pretty much a shoo-in to win his division every year.

In his first 10 quarters (2 1/2 games) of NFCCG play...he had 1 TD and 5 INTs. That ranges from 2010-2016....

The NFL has made it clear they arent going to bend over to ensure he gets another ring...so Denver would be best not to expect the red carpet, ignore HGH, Manning treatment.

The guy is a front runner. When things are going well, he looks like a world beater. As soon as he faces the slightest bit of adversity though, he folds like a cheap suit.

Take our comeback against Houston two years ago. Rodgers is simply not winning that game if he was our quarterback. He doesn't possess the competitive fire and leadership ability to do so.

We've seen time and time again Patrick and, as much as I can't stand the guy, Brady rally the troops and keep a positive outlook when faced with seemingly insurmountable deficits.

When Rodgers goes down, he slinks off to the corner of the bench and cries to himself the rest of the game. Then in the post-game press conference he blames everyone but himself. I can't fathom how any of his teammates have any respect for him. The dude is a punk, bad teammate who loves to compile stats against garbage comp but ALWAYS comes up small in big moments.

It he goes to the AFC West I will not lose a second of sleep. He isn't beating our guy in a meaningful game. He isn't built like Patrick, plain and simple.

James cashed $17 million of Broncos checks for those 60+ snaps. That’s almost Casselesque.

Donks are going to have to sell the farm to get a 38 year old Rodgers..and its a SB or bust move. He has had 5 opportunities to get there and only made it once...he beat Cutler in 2010. So a 20% chance...on a move that will set the franchise back 5 years (at least) if it fails.

Their bad Ju-Ju has already started...their $50 million RT blew out his Achilles just days after the draft...so now they have to scramble to fill the void.

He got carried. The difference in the 2010 NFCCG was a pick 6 off of third stringer Caleb Hanie. 9 TD and 8 INT in the conference title games

Never made a SB without a top 5 defense.

Are Fangio/Shurmur /Rodgers good enough to beat Reid/Mahomes with everything on the line...Rodgers hasnt proven he can carry his team in these situations. He completely flamed in the 2nd half against the Bucs...and had a lot of opportunity. He could have run for a TD and chose not to...it was a head scratching play given what was at stake. PM would have ran that...100%

Donks will be without 1st round picks for the duration of this experiment and likely losing key defensive players in the trade...They are also taking on Rodgers salary...which wont be prorated over many years due to his age.

Cleveland should trade for Rodgers in a heartbeat. Mayfield is ok but Rodgers would take this Browns team over the top.

Why do people assume the addition of Rodgers will take their team "over the top" when he hasn't taken his own team to the SB in a decade?

If people were looking closely..there hasnt been a lot of outstanding QB play in the NFC outside of Wilson either...it's not like having Manning, Brady, Roethlisberger every year in their prime...maybe Ryan in moments. Rodgers didn't have a lot of competition...and still never closed the deal.

Will he make a team more competitive if they have a sub-standard QB play...yes. Lets be honest here...he is a great QB that is barely mediocre in the post-season. He has years of data that says he doesn't perform well against top competition in pressure moments.

This is what you are getting if you sign him...at 38, he isnt going to become something different.
