Production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun!
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode.
Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for updates.
It might be exciting for some that they keep bringing in cameos from Star Wars Greatest Hits library every week on this show, but I think it's getting away from the promise of Season 1 and just becoming fanfare at this point. I don't care if I'm in the minority, but Season 1 was better imo. Need to get back to the Mandalorian's past and the world building they did in Season 1. This is just the most random, unlikely assembly of characters from so many different mediums of Star Wars history that it's just implausible at this point. I hope they subvert my expectations in the last couple episodes, but they're bringing in all these characters too fast, making them one or two episode retcons instead of giving it time to breathe.

They could've easily given Boba Fett the spotlight over this entire season 2, then used Ahsoka and the Clone Wars connection for Season 3. Imagine an entire season or recurring Boba Fett battles with Mando for him to reclaim his armor, to being hired to get the kid, to giving him backstory, just so many possibilities to payoff for this season, but instead he's likely a two episode filler this season.
Cal Kestis and the crew of the Stinger Mantis? I mean hell, at this point, Filoni and Favreau are pulling all the stops out for hardcore fans and obscure references....
I don't actually remember why Boba Fett was hanging around on the Imperial barge when he ended up in the pit. I was just imagining a tense moment between the two where they share a look and Luke just picks up Grogru and walks away. Then some dialogue:
Cara: Aren't you going to stop him?
Mando: I was supposed to give him to a Jedi
Boba Fett: Works for me.
And we get to argue about what Luke and Grogru are doing in between seasons. I'm going with Jedi training.
That was really fun and the pacing was incredible.
I do find myself wondering WHY Boba Fett has been kicking around Tatooine for the past 25 years and hope we get a good explanation for it... something like him being in a coma or something for most of that time period. Otherwise, it seems unlikely an individual as capable and fearsome as him would have just been hanging out that whole time.
It's hard for me to buy "he wouldn't leave without his armor" as an explanation. He knew Vanth had it, somehow. If he was awake that entire period before Vanth found it, I have a hard time believing he wouldn't have started checking with the Jawas to see if one of them had it.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they close it. I have a lot of respect for Filoni and believe he'll give us a close to this season similar to the way he closed arcs on previous Star Wars projects.
It's only 5 years, not 25, but the question is valid. My assumption based on on what he said, the garb, the weapons and the facial scarring is that he was all but dead after the sarlaac, and spent a lot of time healing with the Tuskan. But it is a long time.
