Colin Kaepernick will be the subject of a six-part series produced by acclaimed director Ava DuVernay, Netflix announced Monday.

The series, "Colin in Black and White," will explore the quarterback's high school years, attempting to show the experiences and insights that led to his activism.

Kaepernick will appear as a narrator, with an actor playing him as a youth in the scripted drama of a Black child adopted by a white family.

"Too often we see race and Black stories portrayed through a white lens," Kaepernick said in a release. "We seek to give new perspective to the differing realities that Black people face. We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted Black man in a white community, during my high school years. It's an honor to bring these stories to life in collaboration with Ava for the world to see."

Kaepernick will also be an executive producer for the series, which was written by Michael Starrbury. No date has yet been set for its release. DuVernay and Starrbury previously worked together on the Emmy-winning Netflix miniseries "When They See Us" about the Central Park Five case.

Kaepernick, 32, spent six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers but has not played in the NFL since 2016, when he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice in the United States. The actions stirred debate about the national anthem, and despite his qualifications, including a Super Bowl appearance, Kaepernick has been a free agent since 2017.

"With his act of protest, Colin Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race and justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture and for him, personally," DuVernay said in a release. "Colin's story has much to say about identity, sports and the enduring spirit of protest and resilience."

DuVernay directed the 2014 drama "Selma," about the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march for voting rights, becoming the first black female director to have her film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

I wonder if he will wear his Castro shirt and talk about financial inequality as he sports $1,000 worth of jewelry and Nikes.

But that was before other companies such as Disney/Marvel/Star Wars, AT&T/Warner Brothers, CBS and NBC began pulling their content from the streamer for use on their own standalone streamer. It won't be long before Paramount/Viacom begins pulling their content as well.

Netflix is likely to see a decrease in subscribers in the next 12-18 months, especially if Los Angeles is shutdown again (which the governor has indicated is likely to happen soon) because the loss of shows like Friends, Parks & Rec, Community along with the Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies will drive subscribers elsewhere.

Netflix definitely needs to step up their original content soon or face even more subscriber losses, especially considering that they have a huge debtload as well.
AT&T is a disaster. Trust me dude I work with folks there every day. As you of all people know, you have to spend money to get actors/writers to provide good content and AT&T doesn’t like spending money, and they also have a shitload of debt bc of their incredibly stupid decisions. Everything they touch goes to shit. I mean holy shit man. They released HBO Max with basically no kid content except mostly old shit from the 90’s that kids don’t care about. They also released this without compatibility with roku or amazon prime stick :-)

It just seems like Netflix is so far ahead of everyone when it comes to original content. Their first Q saw a 22% increase in memberships as well. Ozark, Stranger Things, House of Cards (before Spacey’s exit) and Tiger King amongst others all have loyal followings.

Amazon Prime TV is their biggest competitor now per the numbers, but IMO Disney will be their biggest competitor as they continue to release quality content starting this Fall.

For those who say Netflix doesn’t produce good content anymore, watch Lenox Hill.

Kaepernick possibly being James Lofton's bastard son, abandoned by his white birth mother, then gets adopted by a very well off White family. During the 49er Super Bowl interviews Colin said growing up the only time he's been discriminated against due to his race was when his adopted family checked into hotels asking who he's with

:-):-):-):-)

Systemic is defined how the Progressives define it NOT how the actual facts and Webster's define it. "Words mean what we(Progressives) say they mean.:-)

Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc..... just supporting the progressive agenda as usual.:-)

is each part like 10 minutes long? What exactly has he done?

Played football at an above average level (for an NFL player) for a couple years. Started banging a SJW chick that got him into being a SJW. Started flaming out in football so he reinvented the wheel and found a new person to sign checks to him. Then when his name was almost out of the news cycle, he would do some low level stunt to kind of stay relevant.

Does it really take a 6 part docu-series to tell this story?
