We're gonna see how good these guys we have on the roster are over the next few weeks, aren't we? But more important than that even when Pat returns and moving forward in his career I think giving him a good run game is gonna be very important. Yes, we still want him to be the genius that we see every Sunday, but the less he has to drop back with the ball in his hand, the less chance of being filled with dread like we were last night. The Pats have embraced this philosophy since Brady has aged and now the Packers are doing it. Hell, San Fran are a running team too since Jimmy got injured.
So basically Andy is gonna have to evolve now in order to protect Pat long term. I honestly think establishing a reliable run-game is as vital as fixing any defensive issues we may have. [Reply]
Last night was the first game of #Chiefs DI Derrick Nnadi’s NFL career with a 75+ Run Defense grade (79.4), and a 60+ Pass Rushing grade (66.9), resulting in the 2nd highest Overall grade of Nnadi’s career (77.9)#ChiefsKingdomhttps://t.co/9wVbPH7iqX
Reid found a way to provide a running attack with only one gimpy veteran RB last night. And he's proven to be pretty good at finding good RBs in the draft, so in the future I think the Chiefs will find a guy.
In the short team, I think we're going to see Shady become the primary back this season. He's the most consistent, and can still break off big plays, as we saw last night. Plus, he's just flat out the best RB we have at pass pro, which is going to be even more important until Pat gets back and through the rest of the season.
I actually think it's going to be fun to see just what new plays Reid comes up with in the running game. He always has a few tricks up his sleeve, utilizing TEs, WRs, etc. as well as RBs. I think we're going to see some spectacular splash plays in the near future. [Reply]
I don't know if it's just he's getting the ball when the Donks are keyed in on the run or what, but Damien Williams had 9 carries for 7 yards last night.
It reminds me a bit of when we had Charcandrick West as our primary backup but then Spencer Ware started getting a few carries here and there. Ware looked like the superior RB in nearly every game, and it especially showed when West got hurt and we had to rely on Ware. That's when he really shined for those 2 seasons or whatever it was until he turned into a brokedick himself.
What I'm trying to say is how about we start fucking feeding Darwin Thompson every so often? [Reply]

Williams did get some of those carries in garbage time, run straight ahead and take 40 seconds off the clock situations though. [Reply]

That was part of it I'm sure.
Also, to be honest, I think he's pressing a bit. He doesn't look patient. I think he might be trying to prove something to Andy, so he's not taking what the defense is giving him.

Who knows? But it's a fact that Reid likes speed on his offenses. Darrel is the slowest of the RBs.
But it's just as likely that in the next few weeks Darrel becomes the featured back. Just like Drob became the featured WR for a game, Mecole for a game, Sammy . . . [Reply]
I just said this in the trade thread but our biggest need now is OL. We're going to have to run effectively now. Run shady more and get Darwin out there. [Reply]

The bolded is going to be important going forward. The one thing that worries me a bit about Shady is ball security. We just cant afford putting the ball on the ground with the backup in we wont have Pat to get points back easy. Also Moore needs to stop staring down his receivers. I am sure its from not being familiar enough with the guys but routes will get jumped. I'm sure our opponents will see that in tape going forward. [Reply]
