Nzoner's Game Room>Do you enjoy being a Chiefs fan?

Not really much more context needed. I just wonder sometimes after reading a lot of the comments around here.

After finally adding a MVP QB? You're damn straight I do. :-)

Pretty much this. I think fandom, and how you respond to wins/losses matures with age.

You begin to realize its a game, and a form of entertainment, and you are along for the ride.

In the 90s, after years of suckage, combined with a younger me, i thought i was part of something.

The older (and more jaded?) I get, i realize im a consumer....nothing more.

I honestly get more entertainment from the cp community, than i do the actual 3 hours of gametime each week.

That said....im a huge jayhawks fan, and when they won the title in 08, i changed.....meaning, i dont stress games/tourney anymore.

Chiefs winning the super bowl will be one gigantic enema for the entire fanbase!

I've grown up a Mizzou, Royals and Chiefs fan. The Bermuda Triangle of sports loyalty.

It's better than being a fan of about 26 other franchises, so there's that.

We need a Super Bowl win at some point within the next handful of years, though.

Of course, and at least for me, being out of market helps as I tie the team to fond memories of my time in KC in general as opposed to just their individual successes/failures.

Squandering the Mahomes era will likely kill it for eternity for me though.

Growing up in Green Bay, WI during the Favre/Rodgers era was rough. Many times I wondered how in the high hell I ended up being a Chief fan. It was hard to find much joy in it after the Vermeil years until Reid came along.

Now it's much more enjoyable, although still infuriating more than anything as last week proved. We have an MVP QB and still can't seem to pull it all together. I know we have a long time to get it right, but it's still frustrating as hell.

Overall in my time as fan, the Chiefs have caused me more anguish than joy. I'm hoping we've turned that corner now, though.

Pretty much this.

However it’s a lot more fun with Mahomes.

Even pre-Mahomes I enjoyed the elite talent that rolled through here. I loved DJ, Gonzo Kelce Charles Berry, hell even Roaf crushing fools brings a smile to my face even today.

It is a true catastrophe that none of the elite talent that rolled through here won a damn thing.

Exactly this.

For me as a fan, Haley and Pioli were the best thing to ever happen to me. It forced me to stop living and dying with a football team week in and week out and just enjoy it for what it is - sports entertainment. I enjoy watching, I'll always pull for them, but it took me all of an hour to get over the Titans debacle where before it would have wrecked my week most likely. So yeah, I enjoy being a Chiefs fan, I just keep it in perspective now.

Plus, Mahomes. (On a personal note, my daughter is REALLY invested in the Chiefs right now since she's the same age as Mahomes, so it's turned into great dad-daughter time as she learns about the game)

I love everything about going to Chiefs games- except watching Andy and the defense choke games away and never learning from their mistakes.

KC Ground Hogs --every season is like a repeating loop of the movie Groundhog Day. We already know how it will end.

It's shameful we never had a quarterback to go along with those guys. Now we have a quarterback but those guys aren't here save Kelce though. We need to roll out a Super Bowl for fans moral and team mojo.

I still remember the home opener in '05 playing against your boy Herm and the Jets. Roaf busted out left on a toss sweep leading the way for Priest and absolutely destroyed a defensive back with a block. I can't imagine that DB doesn't have PTSD and wakes up screaming to this day at the thought of Roaf barreling down on him with bad intentions.

Definitely the 'entertainment' view point.... pre-Mahomes, I didn't enjoy watching them much, so I didn't.

It's much more enjoyable now, of course... there are still moments of WTF did I just spend 3 hours of my life watching that, like the Titans game (even had they won, it was an awful, mistake/penalty/whistle/commercial filed shitfest)[/i]... but as mentioned in another thread, they're in pretty much every game now, which is pretty great for fans.

I've said for years that all I want is for them to be competitive against the best teams in the league... and given that over the course of years, they're bound to win some hardware.

Sort of?

I mean... I was totally awestruck at my first Royals playoff game in 2014, but I also would have been had there been a playoff game in 2010 or 2000 or 1995 or 1990.

The Titans game was a tough one for me. It certainly ruined my Sunday. I’ve realized as I get older that my expectations going into a Chiefs game are what make me the most upset. I thought they would destroy the Titans, and of course they lose in the most infuriating of ways.

I need to do a much better job of taking KC games for what they are. I appreciate what others have expressed in this thread. I enjoy being a Chiefs fan, but a little perspective goes a long way.
