Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, and it's too early to say that he definitely will play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Mahomes cleared certain steps Monday, "some big steps," sources told Schefter, but the reigning Super Bowl MVP still must go through other steps to clear the concussion protocol in the coming days. There is hope and optimism, considering he is expected to practice Wednesday, a source told Schefter.

According to the NFL痴 concussion data, which is collected by healthcare data company IQVIA, the median time for the 29 quarterbacks who suffered a concussion between 2015-2019 to complete concussion protocol and return to play was seven days. -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday:
Phase 3: Football Specific Exercise
This is when the team can begin to introduce football-specific activities. Phase 4: Club-Based Non-Contact Training Drills

On walkthrough days, players could be listed as a full participant in practice during this phase. If he痴 able to get through this phase without any new or worsening symptoms and passes through neurocognitive testing he値l advance to the final phase of the NFL痴 return-to-participation protocols.
Friday:
Phase 5: Full Football Activity/Clearance
If Mahomes is able to get through team meetings, conditioning and non-contact practice without recurring symptoms and his neurocognitive testing returns to baseline, he値l be able to be cleared in full by the team痴 training staff. In this phase, Mahomes would be cleared for full-contact football activities in both practice and game-time. As we mentioned earlier, he値l also have to be cleared by an independent league neurologist. That would also occur in this phase.
Saturday:

Here's a interesting thing. Nowhere did Any ever said (to my knowledge) that Pat has a concussion. All he said was "He's doing great right now, which is a real positive as we look at this. He passed all the deals he needed to pass and we'll see where it goes from here."
Nothing in there indicates an concussion.
I think this is more of a strained neck or something. [Reply]

either way..once hes ruled out..he must go through the concussion protocol. . best to hope is Monday he has no symptoms..

It was a choke. Inadvertent. You can clearly see in the slow-mo replay the forearm along Patrick's neck, between the shoulder pads and the edge of the helmet, and as Mahomes goes to the ground, the defender's body swings over and around Patrick, putting most, if not all, of his bodyweight against Patrick's neck. More than enough force to close the carotid on that side, which would induce an immediate blackout. And it might've been so short-lived that Mahomes wasn't even aware that he blacked out. [Reply]
My understanding is that even if you show no signs in the locker room, they'll still review the tape of the play and what happened after. So while he may have passed the tests he looked very wobbly so he's ruled out for the game. Diagnosis can change tomorrow, but the NFL wont risk the possibility of a concused player returning to a game. They cant afford to. [Reply]
