Was sitting on the waiting bench at WalMart today and a lady and her daughter tried to enter without masks. The greeters/security stopped them and informed them they needed a mask. They said that they drove to this county because it did not agree to uphold the governor's mask mandate. The greeter then informed them that Walmart as a corporation has decided to require masks in all of its stores. She then tried to go into some diatribe about religion and the county attorney and at that point the security dude cut her off and told her to either get a mask or leave because she was holding up traffic into the store. She rattled off one last zinger about never shopping at Walmart again, grabbed her daughter by the hand, and off she went. I just sat there thinking, wow, I just saw a real live "Karen" in the wild.

It's the one "herd immunity" theory that seems like it's got a CHANCE to be true. Let's hope so.

Deaths in war aren’t contagious either, but nobody ever says that when comparing deaths from COVID and war. People lose their minds if COVID is compared to flu, cancer, heart disease, or anything else. Weirdly those same people are quiet when war is used as a comparison

If the CDC estimate is correct, we should be there now, more or less.

The tricky thing is that the level likely varies by area (depending on what other coronaviruses have been through the community), so using a blanket, national figure won't tell us much. And it still would mean that a lot more people will have to die before things stabilize since there are areas that have been hit harder than others.

It is interesting to note that there aren't a lot of examples of small areas that have been hit twice. That's what gives me hope.

Once it really gets rolling there will be overshot of the percentage which is what you’ve hopefully got in some of theee areas

Hopefully we’ll get lucky

Guess the $600 unemployment benefits simply being extended wasn’t a no brainer after all. I got roasted for pointing this out weeks ago. Here’s to hoping the government extends the benefits while also incentivizing those that go back to work. It will be an epic disaster if benefits are ended altogether.

“expected to release their proposal this week, are generally loath to extend the full benefit. They feel it creates a disincentive for people to return to work, a concern echoed by some business owners. Instead, GOP lawmakers are considering scaling back the enhancement by several hundred dollars and creating a bonus for those who go back to work.“

That’s incredible. T Cells being created in almost all infected is huge, and with the news from Oxford that their vaccine creates three fold the immune protection of a natural infection things are starting to look much more hopeful to get past this pandemic in the next 6-12 months.

Non-peer reviewed but this may explain why different areas have different severity of the virus.

"Analysis of data from the COVID Symptom Study app, led by researchers from King’s College London, reveals that there are six distinct ‘types’ of COVID-19, each distinguished by a particular cluster of symptoms."
