The Chiefs were interested in Tyrann Mathieu last year's free agent period to pair with Eric Berry, but didn't have the cap space to match the $7 million one-year deal he got with Houston. Still makes sense to pair the two together if the Chiefs are convinced Berry is healthy.

Coming back from an injury-shortened season in 2016, Tyrann Mathieu led the NFL in total snaps played in 2017. After being cut by Arizona, he took a one-year deal to rebuild his market. Now he’s making $14M/season for a Super Bowl contender. Still so versatile and productive.

The Chiefs, I’m told, we’re aggressive in pursuing Tyrann Mathieu from the start of today’s legal tampering period. Mathieu’s 3-year deal is good for him & the Chiefs, as he’ll be Steve Spagnuolo’s center fielder in the secondary.

Chiefs have been out several other teams to labnd Tyrann Mathieu on a deal worth $14m per year, as ESPN first reported. They have not had any contact yet with Eric Berry though that would be a massive amount of money to tie up in two safeties
