Nzoner's Game Room>Chiefs close to a deal with Tyrann Mathieu (now confirmed)

This is really interesting now. If they don't release Berry, even with Matthieu in the fold, then they must be absolutely confident that he is going to be able to suit up. Why would you not cut Berry if you weren't 100% sure.

If they are following this up by releasing Berry, I get it. If not than well I don't get it.

If they coveted him so much then why the fuck didn't they sign him last season when he was only $7M?

The Chiefs were interested in Tyrann Mathieu last year's free agent period to pair with Eric Berry, but didn't have the cap space to match the $7 million one-year deal he got with Houston. Still makes sense to pair the two together if the Chiefs are convinced Berry is healthy.

We tried, fool. Way tighter against the cap back then than we are now, and we're pretty fucking tight.

They didn't know about Haglunds?

Coming back from an injury-shortened season in 2016, Tyrann Mathieu led the NFL in total snaps played in 2017. After being cut by Arizona, he took a one-year deal to rebuild his market. Now he’s making $14M/season for a Super Bowl contender. Still so versatile and productive.

The Chiefs, I’m told, we’re aggressive in pursuing Tyrann Mathieu from the start of today’s legal tampering period. Mathieu’s 3-year deal is good for him & the Chiefs, as he’ll be Steve Spagnuolo’s center fielder in the secondary.

Alright, well....now that that's out of the way....I guess our F/A bonanza is over.

On to the draft!

So our interest in Collins seems to have been overblown just a wee bit.

Seems that they view Berry as their "Box Safety".

I'd take a healthy Berry around the LoS for sure. He's still a smart, heads up player who can tackle.

Chiefs have been out several other teams to labnd Tyrann Mathieu on a deal worth $14m per year, as ESPN first reported. They have not had any contact yet with Eric Berry though that would be a massive amount of money to tie up in two safeties

I like this. It's a heck of a lot better than Landin Collins 6 years/80+ million

A) years are shorter
B) If he gets hurt they are back to square one (terrible on the backend like last year) so this is only a net gain.
C) It almost guarantees at least someone that knows how to play football on the back end will be on the field for the Chiefs when Berry is day to day for 16 games next year.
