IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Seattle held the Chargers' offense to 19 points and would have won that game at the end if Wilson hadn't thrown an absolutely moronic pick 6.

Some things don’t show on the stat sheet. He has had a few big mistakes in game management that he can definitely improve. You would not expect these kind of mistakes from a veteran guy:

*Chargers game: poor clock management to end 1st half.
*Patriots game: end zone INT cost KC at least 3 points and they lost by 3.
*Browns game: Bad sack in 4th quarter cost KC 3 points to go up 3 possessions.

What's the closest the Chiefs have ever come to an MVP - Priest?

Playing at Seattle on December 23rd will be a tough game. Chances are likely they'll desperately need that game for the playoffs. And the Rams will be tough of course.

Aside from that, I'm just not that worried about the Ravens or Chargers. We have the benefit of playing them at Arrowhead and as much talent as the Chargers have, we just own that ass.

Obviously I don't expect him to complete 100% of his passes, finish the year with 0 INTs, or make no mistakes.
That said, as DRM08 pointed out, better clock management, knowing when to throw it away vs the 2 end of half INTs against NE and CLE, letting a play die instead of running OOB for 2-5 yard losses, etc. There's plenty to clean up, not to take away from this incredible start to his career, but he's only going to get better.

The NE game is one of those things where you don't want to criticize the kid when the defense played so goddamn poorly but it's hard to argue that he didn't leave 11 points on the field in that 1st half and arguably more.

2 TD throws turned to FGs and the int took another easy 3 off the board.

Hell, it may turn out that the very next time they play the Patriots he doesn't do that and the Chiefs win that stupid game 56-45, which is precisely the point.

There's not room for a LOT of improvement - but there is room for some.

The Chiefs can't be sentimental this offseason. They need to make hard decisions to at least get a mediocre product on the field.

THIS. Sweet god THIS.

In the modern NFL, that's okay. The defense has grown into the ranks of firmly mediocre at this point. It's a far cry from days of yore when we could win games with that unit, but it is what it is.

I just think we need to recalibrate our understanding of what constitutes mediocre these days. Once we do that, we'll realize that mediocre is pretty much exactly what this defense is.

Nope.

Negatory.

Sweets needs top 10 or close to it! We shall NOT continue this untested, unproven by time folly-trend known as "Uber Offense/Gettin' By Defense".

The Milkman Method is sound and proven:

Top 10 Defense + Franchise Jesus QB = In it EVERY SEASON with a high probability factor of going ALL THE WAY.

Quit settling on these fucking schlubs, these "Matt Cassel's" of defense, and COME BACK TO EARTH, BITCHES!
:-):-)

We left 10 points out there. Should have hit Hunt opening drive and the FG chance was killed but still 40 points and we lost. Stinking defense did squat and the refs didnt throw not one flag on them. Rigged.

Do you believe the Chiefs front office is indifferent as to the state of the defense?

More importantly, what sacrifices are you willing to make on offense to get this defense up from 20 to 10? Understand now that the 10th ranked scoring defense in the NFL is giving up 22 PPG to our 25.

It's just pointless to sit there and shout "MAKE THE DEFENSE BETTER!!!!". Well no shit. Hell, make the offense better too. Make everything better. Better is....better. But just as was the case when everyone was saying "GO GET A FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK!!!!" -- there's no wal-mart for getting stuff like that. It takes time and opportunity.

The absolute instant the Chiefs had an opportunity, they got the baddest motherfucker on earth under center. And every time the Chiefs are given an opportunity they will look to make the team around said bad motherfucker better.

But I reiterate - the difference between a top 10 scoring defense and the 20th scoring defense is 3 goddamn points/gm. If we were giving up 22 points/gm instead of 25, would you fellas really be all that more comfortable?

No. You wouldn't. You need to re-calibrate your needle for defense in this league, gents. We're absolutely within sniffing distance of the defense of any contender in this league. You're just gonna have to live with that for now and bank on player development helping out. That or you're going to have to take assets off that offense; rob Peter to pay Paul. I'm not willing to do so.
