Exactly one week from today I will log off my laptop, gather what is left of my belongings at the office, hand in my equipment and turn in my badge.
After almost 48 years in my selected occupation I decided that the end of March is my retirement date. I've met many good people in my line of work and made a great deal of life long friends....(some of them Chiefs fans too)
Without getting too sentimental.....I think I have run my race and done the best I could to always be at the top of my game.
Now comes the next stage of my life....and I do have plans. But it would be nice to hear from any of the rest of you who are retired as to what happened after you retired......did you take a few weeks off before just moving to something part time or volunteer work? Or did you just hit the ground running.
Any retirement wisdom is greatly appreciated.
(And no....I am not taking a trip to Belize nor will I be drinking any anti-freeze) [Reply]

A couple years after I started working, the plant manger for our manufacturing facility retired after 35 years there. He was the original manager of the plant - it was pretty much his baby and he had poured a lot of effort into it. Anyway, about months after he retired, the office got a call from his wife, asking, "Is there anything Bob can do out there? Anything?" lol
Wondering at what point my wife will be calling someone to come take me off her hands....or get me away from "fixing " things. [Reply]

Yeah...the odd thing is that I traveled so much for work that going West to the coast has no appeal to me at my age. Probably won't travel west or Bentonville where my daughter and son in law live.:-) [Reply]

The only advice I have heard from nearly ALL my retired friends is be careful of the Home Depot addiction.
You have all this time, you see a few minor things you want to update, upgrade or fix at your house and you head to Home Depot. It starts innocent enough and you're there maybe once every 10-14 days and don't spend too much. Suddenly you are there every other day and you are racking up $1,000 visits like water.
Before you realize it, everyone in the store knows you on a first name basis, you've been named Customer of the Month and Visa card just upped your credit limit to $50,000.
Speaking of Florida, my dad retired to The Villages and while I might change my mind in another 15-20 years, it seems like my kind of retirement life (well, except that it's in Florida). All kinds of stuff to do... softball leagues, bus rides to a different beach every week, live music, etc. [Reply]

I'll be 68 in June...was 66 when I had my heart attack. I had planned to work till I was 70 originally but that health scare accelerated my time table. I would have retired sooner but they had problems finding my replacement. Seems no one wants to work Hybrid anymore....

I love retiring here in Florida...was what we planned to do anyway. But the nice part was the company paid to move me here 7 1/2 years ago.
So much to do...explore....and a lot of beaches to sit and relax. [Reply]

Look forward to meeting up to watch games
My wife’s grandma died at 92. Her mom is alive and kicking at 92. So she's probably going to outlive me. [Reply]
Best advice is to not discuss getting out until your release date or one of your co workers might try to start a fight and get your release date moved back [Reply]
