Nzoner's Game Room>Eric Berry Released!
T-post Tom 02:15 PM 03-13-2019
It's done. The spirit is free. (Don't go towards the light.)

The #Chiefs have released S Eric Berry. End of an era in KC.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 13, 2019

The Chiefs have released Berry with a post-June 1 designation, a source tells me. Means the Chiefs will save around $9.5m on the cap this year and $5.5m next year.

Berry was an amazing player and his play in 2016 was fucking insane. He'll always be cool and good for that.

Not doing the right move and getting the spurs fixed was idiotic on his part and he lost his job in result. Glad he's gone but doesn't diminish what he accomplished.

We got his replacement and it's time to move on.

Brett Veach: the organization just no longer feels it in its Spirit to continue to pay an individual top player salary for being a cheerleader.

Whatever. All he cared about was more money as if he didn't have enough. You are a goofy dufus if you think otherwise. KC did him right and he crapped on them.

Eric Berry made an impressive as hell return from cancer. Later, he got injured on the field and effectively never recovered. It's obvious all this was a little much for him, and that's certainly understandable. Thing is, Veach and Reid have a franchise to run, and it's quite clear they don't know what the hell is going on with the guy, and determined it's past time to move on. Guessing we haven't heard nearly the whole story.

100% irrelevant. Berry's feelings at the time of the signing have no bearing whatsoever on the future events that came to pass.

Was the ability to seek medical specialist help during the entirety of the 2017 season and 2018 off season "within his control"? Why didn't he go on IR in 2017 and seek advanced help for his achilles and haglunds? Why wait until the 2019 off season to find out that nothing can be done to cure your condition?
And why waste a roster spot all that time, coming back in to play a game only when it "moves" you to do so, and then playing like shit when you DO play because your condition hasn't been properly diagnosed/treated?

That seems pretty fucking selfish to me. You took the money but did nothing to better yourself during a QB transition year when you could have been getting yourself ready to come back in 2019 and play legitimate football. That sounds like stealing a paycheck to me. It also sounds like stealing valuable time that was given in order for you to handle your medical business OUTSIDE of the team quack doctors and at the very least, get an understanding of what you were truly facing.
But hey, thanks for hanging out on the sideline and providing "leadership". That worked out real well for everybody.

It's a shame we don't know all of the details my Canuck friend, because if we did I'd be willing to bet that there was definitely some "bad guy" going on with Eric in this matter too.

Bet Hobo changes his appearance now that he is seeking new employer.

Me too. I'm thinking a new Kid n Play haircut with maybe a Cowboys star shaved in to the neck would be pretty jammin'.

I’ll always appreciate what great players did for the chiefs.

But this past year was just fucking odd. I honestly can’t come up with a reasonable explanation as to what the fuck was going on. And no I don’t buy the he just didn’t feel right.

I’d pay good money to know the whole story from both sides.

In the end I’m not thrilled with the day to day business and I’m certainly not crying in my beer over him being cut. He was all business in the negotiations so I am not going to lose any sleep over a business cut.

Wasn’t Big Red saying at the combine presser he fully expected Hobo to be healthy and contributing this year?

He sure did! And some folks bought it hook, line, and sinker.

It was at the minimum a 4 month injury that needs time to heal. Pro athlete thinks it could get better and play quicker. Team thinks same thing, not shutting him down. Realize he couldn't when trying. Still ends up playing when he probably shouldn't have. Throw in a quiet dude with a weird personality that's what you get.

Problem is we expect pro athletes to bounce back so quick from injuries because of salary when in reality they really shouldn't because the body needs the natural time to heal and recover like any normal person.
