Nzoner's Game Room>What one bargain Aldi Item do you find top quality?
srvy 08:01 AM 05-10-2019
I use Aldi for quite a few items that are budget priced offering great quality and value.

My choice at one time would have been the pork roll breakfast sausage for B&G but they have changed many suppliers and what is offered now is greasy tasteless trash.

My one item isnt even food. Its a 7.99 coffee conical burr grinder. I Thought for price worth a try but 3 years later its not trash in fact its a workhorse that wont die.

ill admit I am off for my annual wellness checkup the first with new Doc the old retired. Sweating out whether he will be a butt pirate. The old wasn't he left that for the professionals and tossed me the stool sample kit.

Those of you who like the balsamic salad dressing like myself. Next time you're at Outback and get a salad and want something unique, ask for the 'tangy tomato' dressing. It's their own dressing made at the restaurant. They sell it for $5 for 8 oz, which I think is a little high. I looked it up online and it has a bunch of ingredients see below, so I'm not going to try, but last time I asked the waiter and he said, it's basically Catalina with a lot of pepper. It's a little hot, but very good.

Tangy Tomato Dressing Ingredients

2/3 cup of ketchup
1/4 cup of Catalina (or French) dressing
2/3 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon of onion powder
1/8 teaspoon of chili powder (this adds the spice so use a little less if you don’t want too much… or just omit)
1/8 teaspoon of thyme
Tangy Tomato Dressing Directions
Mix all of these ingredients together over a boiling stove for a couple of minutes.

Cool, refrigerate, and enjoy!

Don't know if it's my "favorite" item - but we buy whole milk there. Catch it on the right day and you can buy a gallon for $1.89 - $2.00

Everywhere else? $3.89 -$3.99

Whole wheat bread and milk. WW bread is $1.49, milk $1.70. All their bread is way cheaper than anywhere else.

Take and bake baguette. So good right out of the oven. Crusty, chewy and warm.

Refrigerated pickles in plastic container.

Reggano pasta sauce.

To name a few.

My Aldi's just started selling gyro meat.

Before, unless I wanted gyros I either had to;
1. buy them at a restaurant,
2. buy those overpriced Opaa 'kits' with the pita and tzatziki at regular supermarket
3. go to the special market on Watson [9 miles, one way] that sold specialized meats [now closed and razed].
4. go to the world market on Lindbergh [15 miles, one way] that sells all sorts of international foods.

Now I can get the pitas I want, and the feta I want, and make my own tzatziki, and just keep a bundle of gyro meat in the freezer to heat up whenever I want.

Yeah, me!!

We just started stopping at Aldi on occasion. Culture shock!

So far, eggs and fresh cauliflower are my favorite choices.
