Nzoner's Game Room>Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2
HonestChieffan 11:58 AM 01-23-2011
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

I sure miss the days when I had the use of long dead relatives' farms for this sort of thing. :-)
Indeed! I grew up going to my Grandfather's dairy farm nearly every summer. My God! Those were the days!

Now I go to my Cousins place near Paola. He has 100 acres and we go there to shoot quite often.

In the Army - we had to qualify out to 300 yards. No scope - just iron sights.

God, I miss the days when I could just grab a rifle or shotgun and wander the fields of my grandparents' farm. There was a gently sloping field ending at a berm that would have been absolutely perfect for long distance target shooting with the rifles I have now. I can see it in my mind's eye like I'm standing right there. Alas, the farm was sold nearly 30 years ago.

I live outside Chicago now. There are a couple of public ranges, but the nearest one is an hour and a half away and their longest range is only 100 yards. Plus, due to insurance regulations and constant worry of getting shut down by the liberal scum that control things up here, the people that run it are forced to micro-manage every little thing you do. It can be maddening at times. There's another one up in Wisconsin that's not too far, but due to some past dust-up with the local fascists, they actually require you to only load one round at a time when shooting. Fuck that.

At least there's a nice pistol range close to my house.

I know exactly how you feel. We (my brother and I) used to get up in the morning, grab our shotguns and head out into the woods (GrandDads farm was in Kentucky) and we would shoot rabbits and squirrels and my Grand Mother would cook them up for lunch. She would "usually" get all the shot out...but every now and again, you would chomp down on one of those.... :-)

Damn those were good times.....Like you, I can close my eyes and still see it....damn it sucks to get old...I feel so sorry for young guys who don't get to experience that...

My Wife's family all live in Minnesota but they left their farm years ago, but My SIL has a lake house and we go up there every now and again and spend a week or two at the lake with them.

So has anybody gone to the gun show at the KCI Expo Center this weekend? I stopped by there yesterday to just browse around. That was my first time going to one, and I could see myself dropping some serious cash in there. That said, it seemed like most everything was pretty damned expensive for a gun show. Is that generally normal?

I've actually never been to one. But from what I've heard, the prices are pretty high. I'm all for these people making a buck, but if they're selling something for twice what it costs online, guess what?

Gun shows are the bain of my existence..... :-)

No need to go anymore though. I'm pretty well stocked up these days. Ammo, guns. Good to go!

We were all "gun noobs" at one time or another....no big deal. Go, ask questions. I have always found folks to be pretty damned accommodating and eager to help!

Honestly, I'm not really familiar with EAA - never owned one - but it seems like a decent deal.

I'm a Sig Sauer and a Springfield guy myself....

I'm still not sure they can compete with palmetto's prices.
