Thanks!

That is all that people should be considering at this point trying to makes sense of numbers at this point will make you go crazy and could potentially cause harm because depending on how you look at the numbers it could mislead people into thinking this isn't serious.
Agreed. But the inverse is true as well. This is why we try to make sense of the numbers.

The hardest hit area with the most dense population left one of the dirtiest places in the country running for a long time. I think we actually have a pretty good idea of what it looks like without it.

It's why I keep joking about forcing "debate the numbers" talk into its own thread. It's just useless and clutters up what is otherwise mostly good conversation.
Just remove them from the thread and move on.

We have approx. 600 coronavirus unemployed for every 1 coronavirus death... Not saying one is worse than the other, but that can't continue forever.

In reality we are somewhere between "It's just like the flu" and " Oh my ****ing god! We are all going to die!"

Here's an article from the LA Times stating that immunity tests are showing that there was a TON more people infected by this thing before testing even began:
https://www.latimes.com/california/s...ting-la-county

It also shows that the mortality rate as a result of this data has gone way down to .1-.2%. Now, this is not peer reviewed yet, the study was done by USC. But, the prevailing attitude is that this thing was around a lot longer than January\February. FWIW.

There are other studies from Oxford tracing it origin date back to September in China. So I can believe it.

It would be a fascinating exercise to put 600 random people in a room and tell them that they have to vote to make a choice:

1. All of you will be unemployed for a year
2. One of you dies

Great point. The vast majority would let a single one die.

The people who want to keep the stringent social distancing in place until there is a vaccine are delusional because there may never be an effective/scalable vaccine in place.

The FDA has never approved a vaccine for humans that is effective against any member of the coronavirus family... that includes SARS, MERS and the common cold. And the human coronavirus was discovered in the 1960's... 60 years and no vaccine.

The idea that there will be no sporting events, movie theaters, hair cuts, etc. until a vaccine is developed is completely unrealistic.

Well that sure as shit might explain my likely false negative.

They shoved it that far back, but didn't leave it there or spin it around.
