Media Center>I'm Finally Giving Up My Flip Phone
Dinny Bossa Nova 08:12 PM 01-05-2018
I fear change.

I got underwear that are part of...

Well...

Let's talk about Dinny's new phone!

Don't care about internet GBs. Want to take good low-light videos & pics with a good mic w/overload protect with lots of storage space.

You know, for like, band stuff.

And I want the texts I receive to not be a bunch of gobbledy-gook.

Hate .MOV files. Want Microsoft friendly? Or what?

TIA
Dinny

I have never owned a cell phone. Never owned a pager. I do have a home phone, but I bet I don't use it 10 minutes a year.

I've soooooo been where you are now, Dinny

Had the same flip phone for 12-13 years, and never gave one hot damn about upgrading... my phone worked just fine

Then I was able to 'upgrade' to an I phone 3, hesitated at first bigly, but then took it thinking what the hell, at least I'll be able to take some really slick pictures and video

I'd seen what my kids and friends phones were able to produce in that medium, and was impressed... 'wow you can zoom in nicely, its crystal clear, amazing!' so what can I lose by getting with the times?

Literally the only reason for taking the new phone was for that

The first chance I get to really enjoy those features, was a RATT concert this summer... I'm RIGHT next to the stage, Warren DeMartini is RIGHT in front of me

So I'm snapping away, and recording video when not doing that

Viewing it on the screen I'm thinking 'well hopefully this gets a LOT better when I view it all later'

Oh no, it was all terrible quality... the kids say well you need to make sure its had all of its updates

So the daughter is over a while later and says 'yeah sorry, but its as upgraded as it can get'

:-)

ALL of the hassle of switching over, and learning an entirely new phone... and yet the ONLY reason I took it for is a moot point, AWFUL picture quality, AWFUL video quality

But at least I get KINDA accurate weather updates on it!

:-)

I knew when taking it, that it wasnt a 5-6-7 model... but AT LEAST expected high quality pictures

**** technology

I just ran across an old Motorola razor flip phone in a box in the garage that never saw the light of day after i moved ten years ago. Ànd i really miss the small size. I like several of the features of the newer smart phones but i dont need a huge screen. I wish someone would make a small smart phone. But i think i must be in the minority and everyone else wants a big screen to watch porn.

I'm an Android fan, personally, but if you want something that just works, an iPhone may be the way to go. Otherwise, I'd largely tell you to visit a store and see what your options are. If it's your first smart phone, you're going to care as much about the look and feel as you are about the software and specs.

If you need a place to start for an Android phone, the Moto G Plus 5 is pretty solid for a cheapo.

Can't believe I'm going to say this, but I agree with DaFace that an iPhone is probably the best option for you. Its simple to use and pretty much no tweaking allowed so you can't really screw anything up.

I prefer Android as well because I like to tweak and make it look the way I want it to. Apple doesn't let you do too much with how your pages look other than rearranging apps.

If you want a trial run, you can usually find the iPhone SE for very reasonable prices on prepaid plans.

What service are you on right now with the flip phone?

I only took it because it was free, Ma decided to upgrade and I took her old phone

My mistake for not questioning her more thoroughly about the damn camera... but still man, you'd think a 3rd generation smart phone could at least take great pics

Never paid much attention to the models my kids used, just assumed a 3rd gen would be roughly equal... lol NO

Buy another flip phone. Put the savings into a decent camera. That's probably what we all should be doing.

I had an iphone4 and the camera's were crap. I switched to android after that. LGG3 to a Galaxy 8. Only thing shitty about switching from Iphone to Droid is Iphone's ecosystem, its pretty nice. I do miss itunes on my phone.

Doesn't make all that much sense unless you are talking professional levels of photography.

Gonna spend about $50 on a flip phone and how much do you think a decent camera is going to cost you that would match the quality of iPhone or Samsung? 300? 400? 500?

You could get a new phone of last years models and be just as well off and only have to carry 1 device with the included benefits of a smart phone.

I've been looking at a new phone as well because my LG G2 is starting to show its age with random freezes and self reboots. I'm also a bang for my buck kind of person so I'm not about to go out and drop $800 for $200 phone like an iPhone or Samsung, so I'm always looking at last years models. Oneplus 3T, LG G6, and ZTE Axon 7s (apparently only sold to Chinese government) have all caught my eye in terms of value per dollar.

Wow! There's a TON of excellent advice here. Thank you, everyone.

I am here at this very moment to tell all of you that I have not been this down-hearted since the day that woman drug me kicking and screaming (against my will) to the used phone store to replace my Motorola Razr. Tough day, that.

I have to let go because my bass player let go of his flip phone because he got a new Apple for Christmas, and even MY MOM gave up her flip phone a couple months ago and got some kind of phone that is too big for her head.

Fucking turncoats.

I'd hold out, but people with new phones send texts that are all garbled and don't make any sense at all.

I say technology has gone too far. They should have got to the Shure Vocal Master & quit.

I'm gonna make a bunch of notes from this thread and go to the used store and the Verizon store where we got our service.

Fuck!

If you have anyone close to you who is tech savvy then get a Quad core droid phone running Marshmellow, or maybe Lolipop if your wanting cheap. Let them set it up, install your apps, and forget it. You're never going to tap what it's capable of doing.

If you have a few extra hundred to spend buy an iPhone, they have their place, but as a first smart phone? Nope. If you use a PC then a Droid phone will do you just fine.

Get a service that uses SIM cards and you can buy and sell phones as much as you want in case you want more from the phone in the future.

iPhones are proprietary, expensive, and over rated as are Mac computers. If you need one that's fine most don't.
