Nzoner's Game Room>Salary Cap Question - Move Coming?
OnTheWarpath15 06:09 PM 10-09-2017
Anyone have an idea of how much cap space we had going into the weekend?

There's some speculation on Twitter that according to the NFLPA Report, the Chiefs have somehow lost around $8M in cap space today and are sitting at $3.5M

https://www.nflpa.com/public-salary-cap-report

Would suggest either an extension for someone or potentially a trade, right?

I can't figure out why we haven't seen a roster move yet. It's apparent that Conley is done for the season. Why has he not been placed on IR yet? He is just wasting a roster spot at this point. Houston hasn't yet placed Mercilus and Watt on IR either. Am I wrong, or aren't these moves generally made right away?

JFC, chill out.

Making a roster move right now doesn't make any sense, especially since Steve Nelson will be eligible to return after Sunday's game.

Nicolas and Hali are eligible to come off of IR after the Denver games.

Besides that, 8 players are deactivated on Sunday, so why sign a guy, just to deactivate him?

Probably going to use Conley's roster spot for mcquay or Neal Sterling depending on if kelce or Terrell are ready this way they can get them both prepared to play and see which one they need closer to the game

If you look at it like it’s just WR I would agree. But Kelce and Terrell have the concussion protocol. I don’t think they would bring up the new TE since he’s only been around a few days. They would probably give Orson Charles a call. He’s only been gone off the PS since the new TE came in. Or they might look at DB and bring up McQuay if they decide to go that way. Kemp played very well on special teams so that would help his case. Why wait? Take advantage of the situation and don’t let Pittsburgh know sooner than you have to. They can make the move Saturday and keep them guessing. It’s likely going to be a WR or DB just depends on who.

Nicholas and Hali are on PUP and I believe they can return as early as week 7.

Turns out the NFLPA’s report was only recently updated from offseason accounting — which is calculated using the salaries of the top 51 players on a team’s roster — to in-season accounting, which includes players on injured reserve, practice squads and held money starting in Week 1.

Takes 5 weeks to go from offseason accounting to in-season.

Who the fuck does their accounting, Arthur Andersen?

It's kind of meaningless at this point since we'll almost certainly clear up at least $30m by trading Alex and cutting Hali and (maybe) DJ.

I think that isn't accounting for the few mil they have left to carryover, but yes significant cuts will be coming.

We have a pretty easy $50m in salary cap space that involves moves that should happen anyway. Our salary cap is fine despite all the complaints about Dorsey's contract handling. The only real mistake by Dorsey was the Hali contract. The Houston and Berry contracts are just what it takes to keep big money guys. I think almost all of the fans of the Chiefs wanted to keep both of those players.

Is it from the 10 reserve/future signings players?
