That's where I stand. I guess maybe people can make an argument that the team may be better long-term in terms of the salary cap and the ability to sign future players, but if the question is about the team on the field, the Chiefs are clearly not as strong now as they were three months ago. We've lost Ford, Houston, Nelson, Morse, Harris, and a half-game of Berry, and we've gained Mathieu and I think another guy or two I'm not familiar with.
As Amnorix pointed out, we're still early, so I presume that the cost savings will be used to sign players, but that hasn't happened as of today, so I have to vote "worse". [Reply]

Personally, I don't see Harris, Morse, or Ford as any great loss. As you pointed out, Berry wasn't helping us, either. So that leaves Nelson and Houston. Nelson got better as the season wore on, but not $8M+ per year better. Houston is the only one I hated to see leave, but he was costing us a fortune and maybe he just didn't fit into what Spags sees as his D. [Reply]

That is the thing. They WEREN'T the 31st ranked defense based on yards per play and points per possession. The Chiefs defense saw more possessions by the other team than anyone else. They were also leading in most cases, so by scheme the coaching went to allowing yards and a big cushion.
In reality it was around a 20th ranked defense. I know that is hard for you guys to understand, but you need to take into account tempo and possessions. Sheer yardage and points given up mean nothing. [Reply]

They were 12th in net yards per pass attempt.
They were 31st in yards per rush attempt.
They were also 30th in time per drive, 32nd in plays per drive, and 31st in yards per drive.
Part of the reason they had so many attempts is because they couldn't get off the damn field. [Reply]
We had to make some moves to free up space. Sucks but it's the reality. The reason we are getting better this offseason is that we have some good defensive coaches coming on board. That'll make all the difference. [Reply]

The ranking or whatever ranking you want to use about the defense doesn't matter. They weren't good enough to stop a single 3rd and 10 in overtime and Dee Ford can't look down the fucking line of scrimmage to figure out if he is offsides or not. A lot of that has been addressed, or is being addressed.
So in reality, we just want the defense to be an additional stop better. A little better awareness and to not leak like a fucking sieve when it matters [Reply]
Chiefs are not better talent wise currently. Not really worse though when it's all taken together. With a decent draft, y'all should be better. [Reply]
