I feel BETTER - the fat needed to be trimmed and it has been. Next get rid of Berry and build a new. I love our new offense but I really miss our great defenses of yesteryear. [Reply]
I know it's not always as exciting as signing player x, y, and z, but what we are witnessing is a complete restructure of how the Chiefs are built.
This was always going to happen once the Chiefs found their franchise QB. Glad to not see Veach spend money on Ford because we "should" and instead is using that cap space to improve the defense as a whole.
As for getting a 2nd round pick in 2020, again, I get that it would have been awesome to get the niners 2nd this year, but that's a pretty high pick. Plus, when managing the salary cap and contracts its helps to be adding draft capital in years out. Like the Peters trade, we are going to be pretty excited about that pick when the time comes. Drafts with 4 players in the top 100 in back to back years, yeah sign me up! [Reply]
I was hoping the Chiefs would have a Super Bowl or bust offseason like the Rams did last year and like Cleveland is apparently doing this year to take advantage of Mahomes' rookie contract window.
Veach has been able to create some additional salary cap flexibility by trading Dee Ford and releasing Justin Houston so maybe the Super Bowl or bust aggressive free agency acquisitions/trades will begin soon enough. [Reply]

Like I'm sure this team would like to have Clellin Ferrell but that isn't happening.
Everyone just needs to chill the fuck out, it's a scheme and personnel change, have the damn stomach for it.
Damn straight, Mr. Mecca! When the head coach of the team straight-up tells you at the end of the 2018 season that the pass rush will be coming from the gut, and that is the wave of the future, you might do well to listen instead of pretending that we're going to keep running the same old edge bullshit, or that we are going to keep/draft that type of personnel.

I like the way we're doing it. The way I see it, we're priming the stage for an "All-In" as best we can for 2019( but more likely for 2020 )without sacrificing or mortgaging the future, and while putting together something that can be managed, retained, and/or switched out quickly if needed.
I like the way certain people act like Veach is working in a vacuum all by himself, as if he hasn't been given instruction on which players to release and which to pursue. In many cases, people could easily substitute the name "Veach" with "Reid" or "Spags" or even "Clark".
It's ridiculous to assume that the GM is just locked away in his office, doing whatever the fuck tickles his fancy. But you would think he was with the way certain people around are reacting. [Reply]
So far I think it is pretty much going as planned. Ford does not fit the system, and contract is more then you can pay a 3rd down specialist. so franchise him and then try and get something for him. Check.
Houston's contract needed to go. Check
The other guys were not coming back.
Now hopefully by getting rid of the money paying Ford and Houston you can bring in a few guys who fit the system. But if the expectation was we were going to go from a bottom 2 defense to a top 5, that is probably not going to happen.
I think Spags will have a defense that will stop the run and then have to be creative with the blitzes to apply pressure. But Mahomes and the offense are going to have to cover a lot of weaknesses. [Reply]
Watkins 3/$48MM = 40/519/3 while playing in 10 of 16 games
Hitchens 5/$45MM = 132ypg/5ypa
Reggie Ragland = see above
Speaks = LOL (and we traded up for this LOL)
This is the latest list as of 3/13. Does this mean that they will not be with the chiefs next year or that they are still negotiating salaries>
