The work he put in to go from borderline bust to arguably one of the best defensive outfielders ever is an example many from all walks of life could follow. A truly great Royal and rep for the city and organization.

Thanks Alex. I'll never forget the 9th inning of Game 1 of the 2015 WS. We probably don't win that championship if you don't hit that bomb.

This - ranks fairly close to Brett's upper decker off of Gossage in '80.

It's hard these days to spend your entire career with one team, so that's an accomplishment. Hope he enjoys his kids and retirement. His homer in game one of the 2015 WS is what'll put him in the Royals HOF.

This drastically undersells his value as a pro.

For a five year span, he was a top 10 player in baseball, a hitter who was 20 percent better than average and a nearly peerless defender.

He’s roughly an average offensive player over the whole course of his career but the defense tips him above average.

Gordon isn't remembered as well as he should be because of the last contract, he was a really good player until he signed that deal.

For sure. There truly weren't many guys in baseball who were better in the first half of the decade. In that 2011-2014 period he was the 6th best player in baseball using WAR. And in 2015 he was still solid but got hurt so his overall numbers were down but he'd probably been a 4-5 WAR player.

But in general baseball fans don't value defense that highly. He was a solid offensive player and great defensive player which is harder to quantify.

I remember Petro had a guest on one day a few years ago that said that the Gordon/Dyson/Cain outfield was statistically one of the best defensive outfields in baseball history. Gordon's defensive runs saved in the early 2010s was incredible.

Thank you Alex!

Im not old enough to remember how good his defense was at 3rd?

How was it?

I think he'll slide into the Rusty Kuntz role with the Royals whenever he is ready. I could see him being the Royals manager in about 10 years.

He was way, way better in the whole of the 2014-2015 playoffs (and 2011-2015 seasons) then you're giving him credit for here. Was truly a Top 10 players in baseball throughout that stretch.

Easy to forget with how he was from 2007-2011 and 2016-2018. I'll totally acknowledge that.

Gordon is a a top 10 player in franchise history. His breaks on balls off the bat are things you won't see again. Made what would be difficult catches to many routine.

Paid him 117m and got 233m in value (per FG).

That’s a helluva return. Great career and a really good guy.

Calling him a top 10 player in Royals history sounds like an insult. Id say he is top 3 and id put him at number 2. Hes a no doubt Royals HoFer and he needs his number retired.

I'm not disagreeing, he's top 5 for me. But not all would agree, he's top 10 undisputably
