People have zero conception of energy density and the mechanics of energy storage and transmission.

Someone needs to develop an interactive app that allows people to see, optimally in some form of real-time data tied to consumption patterns and state of the art generation capabilities, that compares the physical and fiscal footprint of the various energy production and transmission methods.

See the 405 at rush hour? This is how large the solar installation would have to be to power all-electric vehicles for every inch of road travel. Same for wind, hydro, gas, coal and nuclear.

See that office building? This is the solar footprint to operate that building during operating hours.

See that jet coursing across the sky? Here's your footprint[s].

See that locomotive? Here's your footprint[s].

Heck, . . . see that kid playing Candy crush at the coffee house, . . here's the solar footprint for just that one timewasting leisure pursuit.

Be sure to include cost data on switchgear and storage [including rare earth retrieval footprint] and inverters for each and every endeavor.

I sense that people conflate power and energy with electricity. They figure if we can put a telephone in our pocket, we can do the same thing with power production if we 'really' wanted to. But they're fundamentally different animals. And that's not a partisan issue. It's a law of the universe.

Some language from The Green New Deal:

-The Green New Deal starts with transitioning to 100% green renewable energy (no nukes or natural gas) by 2030.

-End unemployment in America once and for all by guaranteeing a job at a living wage for every American willing and able to work. A Full Employment Program will create up to 20 million jobs, both directly and indirectly, by implementing a nationally-funded, locally-controlled, direct employment initiative replacing unemployment offices with local employment offices.

-Going to 100% clean energy by 2030 means reducing energy demand as much as possible. This will require energy conservation and efficiency; replacing non-essential individual means of transport with high-quality and modern mass transit; and eliminating the use of fossil-based fertilizers and pesticides.

-The Green New Deal is not only a major step towards ending unemployment for good, but also a tool to fight the corporate takeover of our democracy and exploitation of the poor and people of color.

-The Green New Deal pays for itself through the prevention of chronic disease, which consumes a staggering 75% of $3 trillion in annual health care costs.

-We advocate establishing an Oil Legacy Fund, paid for by a tax on the assets of oil and gas companies. The funds raised would help deal with the effects of climate change and smooth the transition to a low-carbon economy.

The wealthy, who have most benefited from the excessive burning of fossil fuels, should pay increased taxes to help with the cost of transitioning to a green economy. Jill Stein has called for a higher estate tax on the wealthiest Americans; raising the top income tax rate while lowering it for low and middle income Americans; and closing various tax loopholes, especially for corporations. Similar tax proposals advanced by Sen. Sanders during the recent primary, including a financial transaction tax, would have raised an extra $130 billion a year.

It is a line by line roadmap to the Clown Show of the Century.

Yeah, I'm sure that these multi-national oil companies will, no doubt, go "quietly into that good night".......

What is amazing is a bunch of people signed off on that nonsense and endorsed it. Fucking hilarious.

More evidence that progressive liberalism is a mental illness.

I mean WTF does this even mean? What 20 million jobs are being created? Doing what exactly?

Unemployment is at all time lows and most of the unemployed are unemployable or are not seeking work.

We have people on CPDC who advocate this over and over. Always use the generic "tax loopholes" so it cannot be evaluated. At least AOC did not use "Corporate welfare". Its insanity to reason with these people.

Millions, then millions more by switching off of oil/natural gas.

This plan would literally collapse America

I don't believe this is the same "Green New Deal" as the one AOC is proposing. I think this is part of the Green Party's platform from before the 2016 election.

Obviously having two documents with the exact same name is some stunning foresight.
