This was my problem with it. I still remember the 1st one and when the whispers of soft reboot went around my hope was they were putting more time into this and returning to the original premise. The trailers lowered my expectations but I was still hoping they were at least attempting to get the franchise back on track.
The original was a smart film. You felt like you were getting a tour at times because as they revealed more of the park to you they actually dropped real bits of info here and there about the dinos. Kids actually learned something while saying "wow."

The whole thing with the kid supposedly being really smart was kind of pointless and forced though. It didn't really lead to anything at all.
The kids were awful. I had the same problem with the youngest kid as I did in Iron Man 3. We are jamming this needless character into this script for demographics.

Personally I thought it was one of the dumbest things I've watched in a very long time. In every single action scene there is at least one amazingly illogical and moronic decision made or something that makes no sense.
Pratt's character seemed to be the only one in the movie that could think. His performance was good and I probably would have just given up on the whole thing if not for him...
I wouldnt go that far, but Ebert would have called this "idiot plot." The only way this plot works is if you have characters do the dumbest thing possible.

They should have found a different way to introduce the new dinosaur. Which was also stupid. Because whenever they needed it to do something, they just added an animal. Oh, we need it to camoflage? Thought it was OK. But as a couple have said the plot was pretty bad. It was good as far as action goes but yeah it really needed a little better writing to go with it. [Reply]
I saw this last night and really liked it. The end battle was awesome. If you're going into this movie expecting brilliant theatrical performances...uh...this isn't that kind of movie. [Reply]
