Nzoner's Game Room>Veach: Fisher Projected as a Mid-August Return
SAGA45 03:01 PM 03-01-2021
This was from Veach's zoom presser this morning in response to Sam Mellinger following up on a previous response by Veach where he said Mahomes, Schwartz and Fisher were all expected back by August.

When asked, Veach referred again to his notes from Rick (Burkholder) that stated Fisher is projected as a "mid-August return".

Veach then went on to clarify that there's obviously other variables that could impact that but as far as the information he had in front of him from Rick and the medical staff, mid-August is the projection.

Now, Fisher will probably be put on PUP list to start the season but still, this is phenomenal news considering many were expecting Fisher to miss the 2021-22 season entirely.

As far as left tackles correct still think if that's the scenario you go best player available: Maybe pass rusher, Bateman, Toney etc.

A veteran placeholder + Little is one of the better ways to address LT, IMO. You need the bet to bandaid the position until either Fisher is back or Little/Niang has shown enough in practice to earn a shot.

Looking at what’s likely to be available and costs, Kelvin Beachum probably is the top “reasonably priced” option out there. He’d be a considerable upgrade as the swing tackle from Remmers and is just the type of guy likely to be squeezed by this market (solid vet who is a little older).

1 year, $5M on Beachum is do-able for the Chiefs and would stabilize things quite a bit. He’s not a great all around tackle, but he does skew better in pass pro and is solid/slightly above average.

If that doesn’t work, I think Peters is pretty close in line in terms of next-best option for that type of approach.

Some details about LDT's contract.

LDT's current cap number is $4,750,000 for 2021. The Chiefs if they cut him, would have $6,750,000 of Dead money, because the contract is set up to pay an additional $2,000,000 in 2022.

If the cut him post June 1, they would have $4,750,000 of dead money. with the additional $2,000,000 cap hit in 2022.

BUT...

We could trade LDT post June 1. We would save $2,750,000 of cap space and have $2,000,000 of Dead money for 2021 and $2,000,000 of dead money in 2022.

I think the probability is that LDT will be on the Chiefs roster for 2021.
