You most definitely see baseball players lay out all the time, and that is a better comparison here than a sprinter.

The ball was up slightly and out in front of him, if his last step would have been part of the process of getting his body more parallel to the ground with his hands out in front he absolutely could have gotten his hands on it. It would have been an amazing catch, yes, but he had an opportunity to do so, and pulled up on that last step instead of going for it.
Baseball players lay out for first base "all the time"? That would seem to be a perfect time to get somewhere more quickly.

All the time, no but on occasion. To catch the ball in the outfield yes.

These weren't situations in which RAC was necessary though.

You're talking about two plays where you either dive and make a 30-40 yard catch, or you don't make the catch at all.

This shouldn't even be a coaching thing; it should be ingrained in their head to do what they can to make that grab, especially if there isn't a defender in front of them.

He never said anything about first base.

Baseball players layout to make catches basically every game.

Matt Lane on KCSN had an interesting take on Hardman's issues. He said Hardman doesn't have that little extra burst that Tyreek and really good fast receivers do - where no matter how fast they're running, they can always accelerate for 3-4 steps to catch up to an overthrown ball. So it's not so much that he slows down, but that he can't, or doesn't, speed up.

Not sure how true that is but it squares with the way he looks on the field.

I saw this, I think some guys have the confidence to be facing back and run full tilt, and some like Hardman just don't.

He’s running real WR routes in trusted situations. It’s definitely a forward evolution for him. Great job.

Had a couple critical plays. Good for him and I hope he can keep it up for the Chiefs going forward. If he and CEH can be consistent with the game changing plays that'd just be fucking fantastic.

There were literally people bitching because he didn't catch that ball that Pat threw way behind him :-)
