Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will direct the tentpole with Henry Cavill returning as Superman. It is unclear who will play Batman in the new film. A release date of 2015 has been set, with a Flash movie appearing in 2016 and a Justice League movie in 2017.
Snyder's Man of Steel, which rebooted the Superman franchise, has grossed north of $600 million worldwide since it hit theaters this June.

According to two sources with knowledge of the movie, Warner Bros. intends to announce the news at its Comic-Con International panel Saturday morning. Said a Warner Bros. spokesperson, “We don’t comment on rumors regarding these properties.”
“Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder is expected to reunite with screenwriter David S. Goyer and star Henry Cavill for the new film. It’s unlikely Christian Bale will step back into the bat suit, as the actor has indicated publicly that he has moved on from his days as Bruce Wayne.
“Man of Steel” producer and “Dark Knight” trilogy director Christopher Nolan is expected by some to produce the project, but the exact nature of his involvement is unclear.
The move marks the culmination of years of effort on the part of Warner Bros. and DC Comics to bring their superheroes together in a similar fashion to their primary competitor Marvel, which successfully combined its superheroes into a $1.5-billion box-office hit with “The Avengers.”
In the comic world, the two heroes are teaming up in a new series, “Batman/Superman,” by writer Greg Pak and artist Jae Lee.
They've spent 400+ million on advertising? That's insane if true.
I think I read somewhere last night while I was being insomniac that a 300+ million international opening is projected this weekend. Unless I hallucinated that. [Reply]

Wow. I hope the standalone Batman gets higher ratings and the future justice league movies. I'm hoping this atleast springboards those movies to do better [Reply]
Everything I've read indicates near universal belief that Suicide Squad will be a huge hit. But who knows. It's supposed to be more like Guardians or Deadpool than Snyder. [Reply]

I don't think the number is quite $400 million in marketing.
But keep in mind, the exhibitors receive a larger chunk of the box office receipts and receive a higher percentage the longer it runs in theaters.
I'll be surprised if, based on the reviews, the movie is a "winner" for WB. [Reply]

About what I expected...
So pretty much everything Snyder touches? He is a slightly better story teller than Michael Bay, and uses massive CGI effects just as heavily. He is a hack and each of his films is a bore covered in glossy CGI. [Reply]
Even a little kid (like the ones who will be scarred if you take them to see this movie) knows that Batman and Superman will eventually become friends. The way it happens is so ridiculous that I wanted to throw popcorn at the screen, but this was at least two hours in and I’d already eaten it all. It hinges on a coincidence going back to the golden age of comics. Bruce Wayne’s mother and Clark Kent’s mother are both named Martha. Once Batman realises this, he lowers his fists and decides to stop hating Superman and join him on his quest to save the planet. That’s it. That’s all it takes. Warner Brothers is banking a zillion-dollar franchise on asinine writing like this. May Zod have mercy on us all.

I think this is one of those movies where the people who were already going to see it aren't going to have their minds changed by reviews, and neither were the people who weren't. And actually I think reviews in general are going that direction. Social media seems to matter more these days. We'll see what the buzz is like this weekend. And, really, what else is anybody going to watch between now and May 6 (Civil War)? At least with regards to the people who are fans of spectacle.
I'm still going Friday or Saturday. I'll let you know what I think... [Reply]
