The #Chiefs are hiring Steve Spagnuolo as their new defensive coordinator, sources say. The former #Giants DC and interim HC/#Rams HC began his NFL coaching career as an #Eagles assistant under Andy Reid. Now rejoins Big Red in KC.
Why are people bitching about schemes and changing things up? The Chiefs current scheme was to make no adjustments and play mediocre players in positions that almost guaranteed failure. Why would you not change that? [Reply]
I remember Petro talking about Hitchens struggling throughout the season and him saying that he had heard from people that the biggest reason was because he was transitioning to a new defense and it was completely different from anything he had ever played in before.
Keep in mind that we only played the traditional 3-4 defense on first down. The nickel defense was basically a 4-3 up front.
I definitely foresee us getting aggressive about getting one linebacker and multiple corners. This guy’s defense was good in New York in 2016 when they brought in Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple. [Reply]
I have a good feeling. Maybe not exciting, but an improvement. Chiefs don't need a top 5 defense to win. I'm hoping and praying that Spags (along with some key personnel changes) is more than capable of locking down the defense enough where they can stop opposing offenses and get the hell off the field. They don't need to be perfect with our offense. [Reply]
Interesting. I could argue that a 4-3 under look (remember, base defense is less than half the snaps by a mile) works better for Hitchens, DOD, and perhaps even Ragland.
Ford is fine as a wide 9 DE, Houston can do whatever, and Nnadi/Jones work inside. Could be interesting. https://t.co/okqyxuBWYU
