NBCSN Formula 1 Qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix - How exciting -
Three tenths of a second separate the top three and there was practically nothing between Sebastian Vettel (1:22.796) and Valtteri Bottas (1:22.798).
Ham takes the first pole position for the Australian GP. 1:22.188.
P2 for Vettel two tenths of a second behind Hamilton - 0.268s
Ham's teammate Valtteri Bottas was fastest of all through the middle sector but lost time in the final sector - He just went wide.
Ricciardo on his Q3 crash said he lost it going into turn 14...'as the result of more downforce and more grip.' The tires are wider than last year's tires.
The true pace of the new cars are fast. I think Ham broke a speed record... Vettel said that he lost a bit of time, but had enough to beat Ham for pole.
Silver, Red, Silver, Red - Finally!
Awesome Video: F1 2017 Regulations: All The Key Changes on the New Cars
Here's my new driver: Max Verstappen, Australian Grand Prix
Ham in the Silver Merc, Australian Grand Prix
Scuderia Toro Rosso seems to be the fan favorite as having the best new design and paint scheme (added red and silver). Everywhere you go online, they cannot stop talking about this car - Raush has his name plastered on the front side of the car.
Haas FV-17 Challenger's driver Romain Grosjean - Added a darker grey paint scheme. P6 for Australian Grand Prix - awesome qualifying run.
Scuderia Ferrari's driver Sebastian Vettel, Australian Grand Prix - Ferrari added too much white to the paint scheme. I don't like it.
Ricciardo hit with a grid penalty when he crashed out yesterday and change of the gearbox in his Red Bull. Too bad, Ricciardo is Australian. He will now start P15.
Max Verstappen has had trouble all week. He said the car is lacking grip and power and he is having trouble to find a balance...He also said the car does not have the pace on the straight; therefore they will not be competitive at the beginning of the year...
Ham says the cars are 'crazy fast.' The Mercedes performed well during testing. The cars are more physical...
Pre-race Summary:
One thing to look forward to is the new aerodynamics - The cars look a bit different. The wings are different. The second thing, the cars are much wider now probably more proportion. In addition, the third thing is the size of the tires. The tires are sufficiently different in size. Much wider rear tires, much more aggressive looking, wider front tire and the cars proportionately look much stronger.
They say you can expect a much quicker average lap time this year probably at some circuits 4 to 5 seconds lap quicker. The car has more aerodynamic influence and that is going to work the drivers a lot harder.
More accidents????
Race starts in 30 minutes
Max is 19 years old...Ugh the growing pains going with a new driver - He can be reckless at times and his style of driving has pissed off just about every F1 champion driver... Last year he took out Vettel and Kimi at the same time... [Reply]

Wow, good on you for staying up for it.
Sent from my phone using Tapatalk (so spelling be damned!!!) [Reply]
Well, this race could come down to Hamilton and Vettel...Then my money is on Ham - he is the better driver. j/m/o
Although the the German is like a bull in a china shop.
Ham wants to win his fourth championship - Vettel has four.
They say overtaking is going to be more challenging this season. It is going to make the drivers work that much harder for that overtake. Arguably, overtaking at some venues has been too easy in the past.
Oh no..Ricciardo retired his car...
Top three teams should be Merc, Ferrari and Red Bull - not a good start for the Red Bulls.
Edit: Wow, they are hyping the Ferrari - kind of like the Cowboys.
One thing about the Ferraris, they are more reliable than the Mercedes...so they have that going for them. [Reply]

They are starting on a brand new Pirelli tire this year: Ultrasoft Purple.
Looks like all the cars are starting on Ultrasoft Purple - suppose to be used on tight circuits... I think that is what I read - Australia is a twisting circuit. [Reply]
